The 2017 PRCA Steer Wrestling World Champion Tyler Pearson is calling it a career after at 40-years-old.

“I’ve decided to hang up my knee brace and retire from professional steer wrestling,” he wrote on Facebook. “Rodeo has blessed me with more than I could have ever imagined-lifelong friendships, unforgettable memories, and the honor of competing alongside some of the best in the sport. I’m incredibly grateful for every run, every lesson, and every fan who stood behind me along the way.”

Since 2012, he has made six NFRs and finished in the Top 10 four times including his Gold Buckle year. He went out with a trip to Vegas, finishing 15th in 2024, but he says now it’s time to watch his young family grow up.

Pearson has an 11-year-old son and a 9-year-old daughter and wants to follow them around instead of the way other around.

“He and my little girl are getting pretty active, and I’d rather follow them around instead of rodeoing. I enjoy that just as much,” he told ProRodeo.com.

Pearson plans to remain involved in the Western industry by putting on steer wrestling schools, riding outside horses, jackpotting with his children, and training steer wrestling, hazing, and team roping horses. He is already the co-owner of Scooter, a multi-time Horse of the Year and Metallica, a long-time professional hazing horse.

“I’ll always be a cowboy at heart,” he wrote. “Just one who’s finally getting to spend more time on the porch.”
