How Each Tie-Down Roper Advanced to the Semifinals of RodeoHouston
Tie-down roping featured just two cowboys clear $6,000 and the last two Super Series in particular were very, very close.
Here is how all 20 competitors made it through to the next round of RodeoHouston.
Super Series 1
Kincade Henry – $6,000: Henry won Super Series 1 by a comfortable margin thanks back-to-back paydays of $3,000 for first place finishes in Rounds 1 and 2.
Brushton Minton – $3,500: Minton advanced out of his Super Series for the first time in his career, despite no times faster than 11.2, he placed on all three runs.
Cash Hooper – $3,000: Hooper was the opposite of Minton. He needed a first and only first in Round 3 to advance and that’s exactly what he got, turning in an 8.7-second run on Thursday night. Those are the types of runs to remember in tournament-style rodeos…
Marty Yates – $2,750: The 10-time NFR qualifier finished third here last year and put himself in contention again. He won $2,000 of his total for second in Round 2.
Super Series 2
Bo Pickett – $4,750: Pickett finished Top 4 in every round and won Round 1 with a 9.3-second run.
Tyler Calhoun – $4,000: Calhoun split second in Round 1 with reigning champion Ty Harris then won second outright in Round 3 with a 9.8-second run. It is the 19-year-old’s first career appearance in Houston.
Zack Jongbloed – $3,250: Jongbloed banked most of his money from a 10.2-second run to win Round 2. This will be his first Texas Swing Semifinal of the season.
Joel Harris – $3,000: After finishing second here last season, Harris didn’t have anything won in the first two rounds but turned in a 7.8, the fastest run of the rodeo so far to advance in Round 3.
Super Series 3
Riley Webb – $6,000: After breaking the barrier in Round 1, the 2023 Champion won Rounds 2 and 3 with runs of 8.4 and 8.5 seconds.
John Douch – $4,500: Douch finished fifth in Round 1 and responded with back-to-back second place finishes. He has made the Shootout here before.
Cory Solomon – $3,750: Solomon won Round 1 with a 9.3 and picked up a fourth place check in Round 3 as well.
Marcos Costa – $2,750: Costa finished second in Round 1 with a 10.1 and then made a better run, a 9.8, in Round 2, but that one only paid fifth place money.
Super Series 4
Seth Hall – $4,000: Hall finished third in Round 3 and then with his back against the wall won Round 3 with an 8.9-second run.
Shane Hanchey – $3,750: Hanchey won Round 1 with an 8.4 which was the fastest time of the Super Series.
Logan Bird – $3,500: Bird won Round 2 with an 8.8-second run.
Riley Pruitt – $3,000: The Nebraska native finished sixth in Round 1, second in Round 2 and fourth in Round 3.
Super Series 5
Tuf Cooper – $3,500: The Champion of San Antonio got things going quickly in Houston with an 8.5-second run to win Round 1.
Blane Cox – $3,500: The man who matched Cooper’s total was the Round 2 winner, who stopped the clock at 8.7 seconds.
Shad Mayfield – $3,250: The World No. 1 was the only one to win a check in all three rounds, but only boasted $1,250 coming into Round 3. He ensured advancement with an 8.1-second run for second.
Cole Clemons – $3,250: The only run faster than Mayfield’s in the Super Series belonged to Clemons, who was 7.9 to win Round 3 after winning just $250 in the first two rounds. Only Joel Harris was faster in the first 15 perfs.
