A Look at All 20 Bareback Riders Moving on to the Semifinals in Houston
The bareback riding Semifinals will feature the reigning RodeoHouston champion and the reigning World Champion, but the highest earner so far inside NRG Stadium has been a cowboy who just missed his first NFR in 2024.
Here’s how all 20 made it back.
Super Series 1
Waylon Bourgeois – $8,500: Bourgeois got shared victory with Sam Petersen in Round 1 and then won Rounds 2 and 3 outright. His three rides were 86, 85, and 87 points.
Jess Pope – $5,000: Pope made three straight rides of either 84 and 84.5 points and won at least $1,000 in each round, never finishing worse than third. He won this rodeo in 2022.
Sam Petersen – $3,000: At just 21-years-old, Petersen will already be making his third trip to the Semifinals in Houston. We won a majority of his money for that First Round split with Bourgeois.
Cole Reiner – $2,500: Reiner was between 80.5 and 83 points on all three of his rides. He won a check in each round.
Super Series 2
Cole Franks – $5,000: Franks finished second in all three rounds with rides of 81, 85 and 86 points. He is hoping to make it 3-for-3 on Texas Swing Finals in 2025.
Leighton Berry – $5,000: Berry has won the last two RodeoHouston titles and kept his three-peat hopes alive with three rides of 82 or better. He finished first in Round 1 and split second in Round 2 with Franks.
Kade Sonnier – $4,625: Sonnier finished no worse than fourth in a round and his last two rides were 87.5 and 85 points. The 87.5-pointer was the highest of the Super Series.
Orin Larsen – $3,125: Larsen advanced on a tiebreaker after finishing Top 4 in all three rounds. He was marked between 81 and 85 points on each of his three horses.
Super Series 3
Dean Thompson – $6,500: Thompson holds the highest marked ride through 15 performances with an 88.5 to win Round 1 on Calgary’s Cinch Whitney. He also split first in Round 2 and took third in Round 3.
Cooper Cooke – $4,625: Cooke shared that Round 2 with Thompson with 85 points on Zastron Acres and also finished second in Round 1 with an 86-point ride.
Bradlee Miller – $4,500: Miller entered RodeoHouston No. 1 in the PRCA World Standings and made three straight rides of 82 or better to move on.
Chad Rutherford – $2,500: Rutherford grabbed the final spot in large part due to a second place finish in Round 3 with 83.5 points.
Super Series 4
Weston Timberman – $5,500: Timberman finished in the Top 3 in all three rounds with rides of 83, 85, and 84 points. The Round 2 ride was good enough for the $3,000 first place payday.
Rocker Steiner – $5,000: Steiner entered the final round of the Super Series on the bubble and turned in the highest marked ride of the weekend in Houston with 86.5 points on Bailey Pro Rodeo’s Warning Shot.
Tanner Aus – $4,000: After a fifth place finish in Round 1, Aus responded with back-to-back second place finishes.
Mason Stuller: $3,750: The 21-year-old made rides of 84 and 83 points on his two qualified rides after being 77 and 74 in his debut in Houston a year ago. The 84-pointer won Round 1.
Super Series 5
Clay Jorgenson – $6,000: The North Dakota native is coming off of the best year of his career and is showing his best stuff in Houston. He won the first two rounds with rides of 86.5 and 86 points.
RC Landingham – $4,375: It was mad dash for the final three spots after Jorgenson and Landingham was the best of the rest thanks to a Round 3 win and two third place finishes before that.
Mason Clements – $3,250: Clements split that Round 3 win with Landingham with 82.5 points on Small Town Scandal.
Jayco Roper – $3,000: Roper took second in Round 1 with 85 points and third in Round 3 with 82.
