The Oklahoma Wildcatters announced Tuesday that Assistant Coach Shawn Ramirez will assume the head coaching role for the rest of the 2026 PBR Teams Season.

The organization moved on from former Head Coach Greg Rhodes, who was hired in April, after leading a 9-17 campaign this season. The decision comes after the Wildcatters fell into last place for the first time this year after a disastrous weekend in Fort Worth.

Ramirez becomes the third head coach in the Wildcatters’ nearly three-year history after Rhodes and J.B. Mauney. The Wildcatters organization has emphasized their trust in Ramirez’s “experience, competitive approach and familiarity with the organization and its athletes,” and will look to him to “(build) momentum throughout the rest of the year.”

Ramirez has the opportunity to lead the Wildcatters to their best regular season in franchise history. Despite being in 10th place, the Wildcatters need just three more wins to set a franchise record of 12 regular season wins. The Wildcatters have already averaged a win per event, and with three events left, they’re on track for the most wins in franchise history.

The Wildcatters will take on the Nashville Stampede in Arizona on Friday at Ridge Rider Days with Ramirez at the helm for the very first time.
