Ernie Courson Jr. was hung up during a ride in Red Bluff and took a horn to the chest that ended up breaking two of his rubs and bruising a collapsed lung.

The 31-year-old was taken immediately to intensive care on Saturday and was there until Tuesday morning, when he was transferred to a regular room.

“If the paramedic wouldn’t have reacted as fast as he did with the needle decompression, they said I probably wouldn’t have made it to the hospital,” Courson told ProRodeo.com.

He hopes to only be out about two months and because he is currently ranked No. 24 in the PRCA World Standings, he thinks there is still chance at the NFR.
