Calgary Stampede Cash Floods PRCA World Standings

Calgary Stampede Cash Floods PRCA World Standings

The Calgary Stampede packed an even bigger punch in 2025 with 80 percent of its money going toward the PRCA World Standings. That means it was a lot like Houston, a massive moneymaking opportunity in every round with the winners almost certainly locking down NFR spot.

The action delivered just that in Stampede Park, producing two new ones and several more athletes quickly getting on the right side of the Top 15.

In bareback riding, Cooper Cooke rose nine spots in the World Standings to No. 7 thanks to a thrilling victory. After Dean Thompson kicked off the Short Round with 89.5, Weston Timberman followed it up with a 92 on Agent Lynx, which was the highest marked ride of the rodeo for all of one minute.

Cooke won in walk-off fashion thanks to 94 points aboard Disco Party, the highest-marked ride of his career.

“I’ve been coming to this rodeo for about three years now, I knew my day was going to come,” he said. “(Disco Party) came out and did exactly what I wanted her to do.”

The Calgary win was even bigger for steer wrestler Scott Guenthner, who was No. 46 in the World just two weeks ago.

He is now No. 10 after blitzing through Calgary with five straight times of 4.7 or faster, including a 3.7 in both the Semifinals and Finals.

It was his second Calgary Stampede victory in the last three years and this one could very well put him in the NFR despite the fact he is semi-retired.

Someone who will undoubtedly be in the NFR is Guenthner’s countrymen Zeke Thurston, who claimed his fourth saddle bronc riding title in Calgary since 2015.

Thurston, who finished runner-up a year ago, was 92.5 on Virgil to move up to No. 5 from No. 11. Thurston was 86.5 points or better on all five of his rides in Calgary and banked $51,000 total toward the World Standings.

In tie-down roping, Shad Mayfield had what might be the biggest regular season win of his already storied career. He was 6.8 as the first cowboy out in the Finals and his score held after runs from Tom Crouse and John Douch. Mayfield’s father Sylvester won The Stampede 40 years earlier and he not only followed in his father’s footsteps, but the victory also propelled him to No. 1 in the PRCA World Standings.

“(I feel) amazing, this is the best rodeo in the world and I’ve always wanted to win this rodeo,” Mayfield said. “When I looked up, I just said ‘I did my job, now let’s see what happens.’”

Mayfield wasn’t alone in moving back to No. 1, Wacey Schalla did so as well in the bull riding. He was the only one to make the whistle in the Short Round, capping off a 4-for-5 performance with 86.

“This is the most excited I’ve been at any type of bull riding, so I’m just blessed and happy to be here,” Schalla said.

In the two ladies’ events, Shelby Boisjoli-Meged became the first ever Calgary breakaway champion thanks to 2.2, the only clean time in the Finals. That was a tenth of a second off the arena record set earlier in the week by Jackie Crawford.

Meanwhile, Anita Ellis swept her way through the barrel racing, winning all three of her pool rounds and the Finals to make $71,000, all of which counted toward the WPRA World Standings. She started the week No. 32, but now could find herself in the Top 5.

QUICK DRAW

Zeke Thurston’s four Calgary Stampede titles tie him for second all time in the saddle bronc riding with Rod Hay.

Shad and Sylvester Mayfield joined Tuf and Roy Cooper as the only other father-son duo win the tie-down roping in Calgary.

Anita Ellis came into Calgary ranked No. 32 and won the Short Round over World No. 1 Kassie Mowry and World No. 2 Brittany Pozzi Tonozzi.
