Farm-City Pro Rodeo Recap: Schalla Gets Another Bareback Riding Win, A World Champion Makes a Big Move in the Bulldogging and More

More than $500,000 was paid out in Eastern Oregon’s largest city over the weekend, as much of ProRodeo’s top talent converged on Hermiston for what has become one of August’s premier stops.

In bareback riding, Wacey Schalla got another marquee win to move to No. 13 in the PRCA World Standings. He won the Second Round with 89.5 points and finished five points clear of the rest of the field with 175.5 points on two.

Ty Erickson got a big win in the steer wrestling as he continues his ascent toward another NFR. Since Aug. 1, he has moved up from No. 31 to No. 21 in the World Standings and he was victorious in Hermiston thanks to an aggregate time of 7.6 seconds on two, which was three-tenths better than the new World No. 1 Will Lummus.

Andrew Ward/Jake Long both got on the right side of the bubble by winning the team roping by a tenth of a second at 10 flat on two. Both of their runs were 5.0 seconds which put them third in Round 1 and sixth in Round 2. Ward is No. 15 on the head side while Long is the no. 13 heeler.

In saddle bronc riding, Brody Wells made one of two 90+ Point Rides of the weekend on Calgary’s Annual News to beat out a leaderboard that included Zeke Thurston, Logan Hay, Ryder Wright, and Statler Wright. Wells improved to No. 7 in the PRCA World Standings thanks to his $13,329 payday.

World No. 1 Riley Webb extended his lead in the tie-down roping with runs of 8.6 and 7.9 seconds, the latter of which won him Round 2. Webb’s aggregate time of 16.5 seconds on two was one tenth better than Tanner Green.

Tayla Moeykens was more than a tenth better than the rest of the field with a 16.81-second run to bank $13,743. Hailey Kinsel finished second with a 16.96.

In the final performance, Rawley Johnson snatched victory in the bull riding with 89.5 points on Corey & Lange’s Stand by Me, his highest marked ride since Oct. 12. With the win he earned more than $16,000. He currently sits No. 8 in the World and in position to make his NFR debut at 22.
