Four-time NFR bareback rider Leighton Berry will miss the rest of the 2025 season due to hip surgery.
Berry, who has made three straight NFRs, had his right hip repaired on June 4 after trying to ride through the pain for months. He told ProRodeo.com that he first had issues in Houston and tried to ride through it in Austin and San Angelo but didn’t feel like himself.
His recovery expected to take 4-6 months which puts him in position to return at the beginning of the 2026 season. He will instead get to spend the summer with his newborn son Ledger.
“I have a roll-off dumpster business (Reliable Roll Off Solutions in Weatherford, Texas) that I started in the beginning of 2024 and it has really come on and kept me really, really busy,” Berry said in an interview with ProRodeo.com. “I have been spending a lot of time and effort with my new business and now having the baby I have been soaking up a lot of family time.”
Berry hasn’t just made the NFR the last three years, he has finished eighth or better each of those years and made at least $259,000. He admitted it will be tough to be at home watching things go down in Vegas, but he knows it will light a fire under him.
