This week’s headliners did most of their damage at the three PRCA Playoff Series Rodeos while the hidden gems spent much of their time in Oklahoma.

We will start, however, with one of the most dominant wins of the ProRodeo season…

Headliner – Kade Bruno: Bruno dominated the Jordan Xtreme Broncs in Montana against some tough competition. He was 88.5 on Hell on Hooves to win the Long Round and followed it up with 93, a career best score, on J Bar J’s Shady Jacket to win a Short Round that included six rides of 90 or more points. He won over $12,000 for his success.

Hidden Gem – Waylon Buquoi: In just his second qualified ride of his ProRodeo career, Buquoi earned a $5,000+ payday for a Playoff Series win at the Woodward Elks Rodeo in Oklahoma. The 19-year-old proved he to himself he could compete with the top cowboys in the PRCA by besting one of his mentors, NFR qualifier Jace Trosclair.

Headliner – Shad Mayfield: Mayfield made about $9,000 over the weekend, a majority of which came from wins at the Vernal Dinosaur Roundup Rodeo (7.7) and the Parker County Sheriff’s Posse Rodeo (8.4). Since June 5, Mayfield has five times of 8.4 seconds or better and three wins. He is No. 2 in the PRCA Tie-Down Roping World Standings and is now about $17,000 behind Riley Webb.

Hidden Gem – Luke Higgins: The 27-year-old bareback rider entered two rodeos in Oklahoma over the weekend and left both of them with more than $1,600. He was 85 for third in Woodward and 86 to win the 101 Wild West Rodeo in Ponca.

Headliner – Wacey Schalla: The No. 1 bull rider in the PRCA World Standings reminded the rodeo world he works two events at an elite level. He won two Playoff Series Rodeos in the bareback riding over the weekend to jump 10 spots in the World Standings to No. 28. He had just one bareback riding win entering last weekend, but that changed when he had his two highest score of the season – 86.5 in Vernal and 89 in Sisters, Oregon. Schalla is also No. 2 in the All-Around behind Stetson Wright.

Hidden Gem – Tegan Smith: The Iowa saddle bronc rider took his win total from one to three over the weekend by coming out victorious at the 101 Wild West Rodeo and Woodward Elks Rodeo. His rides were worth 86 and 85.5 points respectively and both victories paid more than $2,500.

Headliner – Ryder Wright: The No. 1 saddle bronc rider in the World got on six horses last week, rode five of them for 86.5 points or better, and won Vernal with 90 points on Bill Fick’s Top E. All told, Wright won just over $14,000 to bring his season earnings to $153,993.

Hidden Gem – Gavin French: The College National Finalist tuned up at three ProRodeos over the weekend and won a check at all of them, the biggest of the bunch was $4,042 for second place in Vernal. All three of his rides were 81 points or better.
