There were 22 bull riders invited to Cowtown Coliseum Wednesday for only five spots in Thursday’s Ride For Redemption and 22-year-old Maverick Smith and 2022 PBR Rookie of the Year Bob Mitchell were the ones who made the most of their two bulls.
They were the only two to make the whistle twice, advancing them to join the 20 World Finalists who did not advance from last weekend’s four-round Eliminations at Cowtown Coliseum for Thursday’s performance, which will be last opportunity to qualify Championship Rounds of the PBR World Finals.
On Wednesday night, Smith rode Johnny Rocket for 87.50 points for second in Round 1 behind Murilo Henrique de Oliveira’s 87.75 and then followed it up with 76.75 in Round 2. The bulls got the better of the riders all night, going 14-7 in Round 1 and 16-4 in Round 2. Furthermore, every rider who bucked off in Round 2 did so in less than five seconds and only two made it past four seconds.
Meanwhile, Mitchell was sixth in Round 1 with 84 points and then third in Round 2 with 78.25 points.
From Wednesday’s performance Murilo Henrique de Oliveira, Yan Victor Cunha, and Callum Miller also advanced. All three of them rode for at least 87 points on their lone qualified ride.
Following Thursday’s Ride For Redemption, five of the 25 competitors will advance to the Championship Rounds of the PBR World Finals on May 17-18. They will be determined by aggregate score on two.
Twenty riders already advanced to the Championship Rounds from last weekend’s Eliminations, but there are plenty of notable names in the field Thursday including Claudio Montanha Jr., Daylon Swearingen, Joao Ricardo Vieira, Mason Taylor, and Thiago Salgado.
The action begins exclusively on The Cowboy Channel and Cowboy Channel+ at 7:45 PM CT.
