Meet the RodeoHouston Saddle Bronc Riding Semifinalists
If you want to know where you can find a 2024 NFR qualifier this week, 11 of the 15 from the saddle bronc riding made the Semifinals in RodeoHouston. The highest earner in the Progressive Rounds, however, was not one of them.
Super Series 1
Dawson Hay – $5,000: Hay rode for 87 and 83 points before bucking off for the first time this season in Round 3. He started the season with 15 straight rides of 83 or better before the buck-off.
Logan Cook – $4,000: Cook won a majority of his money from an 86-point ride on Big Bang in Round 2. It is his second straight tip to the Semifinals in Houston.
Riggin Smith – $4,000: Smith needed to at least split the win in Round 3 in order to advance and he won outright with 86 points on Steak Sauce.
Zac Dallas: $3,500: Dallas won at least $500 in all three rounds – finishing third, fifth and second.
Super Series 2
Zeke Thurston – $7,500: Thurston made 84-point rides in Rounds 1 and 3 and sandwiched between them was the second-highest score of the first 15 performances, an 88.5-point ride on Mike Honcho to win Round 2. Thurston was the champion here as a 21-year-old in 2015.
Layton Green – $5,125: After tying for fourth on his first horse, Green was 86.5 to split second in Round 2 and 85.5 to win Round 3.
Statler Wright – $3,625: Wright tied with Green on both his second and fourth place finish and also split second with Thurston in Round 3.
Dawson Dahm – $2,750: Dahm picked up a check on each of his first two rides – an 83.5 in Round 2 and an 85 in Round 3.
Super Series 3
Ben Andersen – $5,500: The story of this Super Series was Canadians as Ben Andersen led a Top 3 that featured a trio of Alberta natives. Along the way, his 89-point ride in Round 3 was the top score through the first 15 perfs.
Kolby Wanchuk – $4,000: Wanchuk placed in the first two rounds, grabbing third for an 83.5 in Round 2 and first in Round 3 with 86.5 points on Calgary’s Y U R Friskey.
Logan Hay – $3,500: Hay won the lion’s share of his total for an 85.5-point ride to win Round 1.
Chase Brooks – $2,250: The Montana native finished second in Round 1 and sixth in Round 3 to advance.
Super Series 4
Weston Patterson – $8,000: Patterson finished second in Round 1 and then won Rounds 2 and 3 to be the highest earning saddle bronc rider in the Progressive Rounds. He was 83.5 or better on all three rides.
Damian Brennan – $4,000: Brennan finished third in two rounds and second in another with three straight rides of 80 points or better.
Brody Wells – $3,750: Wells was 85 points to win Round 1 and also added an 84 in Round 3.
Kade Bruno: $2,250: Bruno entered Houston No. 1 and used an 85.5-point ride in Round 3 to win second and move on.
Super Series 5
Ryder Wright – $6,750: Wright entered Houston No. 3 in the World and won the first two rounds of the final Super Series with rides of 84.5 and 83.5 points.
Cole Elshere – $4,500: Elshere was part of a three-way tie for second in Round 1 and then won Round 3 with 83.5 points.
Jesse Kruse – $2,500: The 38-year-old only had one ride marked in the 80s, but it was a timely second place finish in Round 1 to help him advance.
Leon Fountain – $2,000: Fountain grabbed the final spot in the entire Semifinal field thanks to a second place finish in Round 3.
