Monday Notebook, June 30: Stetson Wright Has Big Weekend as Superstars Shine in Reno
Several of the biggest names in ProRodeo backed it up in Reno while we also saw some off-the-charts scores in at the West of the Pecos Rodeo.
Stetson Wright wins Reno Rodeo as part of a week where he covered five bulls in a row for 85 or more points. It was one of the best bull riding performances you will ever see, frankly. Over the weekend, Wright won the Reno Rodeo, Rodeo of the Ozarks, and West of the Pecos Rodeo and averaged 89.9 points on his five rides, three of which were 91 points or better. He made more than $38,000 and is now within less than $10,000 of the No. 1 spot in the bull riding to go along with leading the PRCA All-Around race. He is 8-of-11 since June 17. No. 1 tie-down roper Riley Webb rallies to win Reno and picks up a check in Greeley. The two-time reigning World Champion got a statement win, rallying from a tie for third to win Reno. He got better on each runs with times of 9.2, 9.0 and 8.3 seconds to ultimately win the Average by seven-tenths. He made $12,492 in Reno and added another $4,599 for winning Round 1 of the Greeley Stampede with an 8.1. Hailey Kinsel repeats as Reno Rodeo champion in a fast barrel racing. After there was just one run faster than 17 flat a year ago in Reno, Hailey Kinsel averaged less than that over three runs in 2025 to defend her title with a winning time of 50.97 seconds. For context on just how much faster the barrel racers were than 2024, Kinsel won with 51.54, which would have put her eighth in 2025. Kinsel won six checks worth more than $3,000 in June. Bareback rider Cole Franks moves into Top 5 in the PRCA World Standings with West of the Pecos victory. Franks picked up his first 90-point ride of the season with 90.5 on Pete Carr’s Secret’s Out to win Pecos in the final performance. He had six Top 3 finishes in June prior to this weekend and finally got his first win since the Clark County Fair and Rodeo on April 13. The victory paid him $6,521 and he is now No. 4 in the World Standings. Saddle bronc rider Damian Brennan moves up three more spots in the PRCA World Standings to No. 10. Brennan got multiple wins over the weekend. In Reno, he lead the Average the entire way after putting up back-to-back 87.5-point rides in the first two performances and then sealing the victory with 88.5 to split second in the Short Round. He was three points clear of Ben Andersen at 263.5 on three. He also put up an 88.5-point ride at Rodeo of the Ozarks in Arkansas to bring his weekend winnings to nearly $25,000. Bull rider Creek Young gets a piece in Pecos and continues to make a push toward the NFR. The four-time NFR qualifier did not get his first qualified ride of the season since May 25, but has made the most of every opportunity since then and now sits No. 37 in the World after a 91-point ride in Pecos split him the victory with Stetson Wright. On just seven qualified rides in 2025, he has made $36,000 already, putting him just $23,000 out of the final NFR spot. No. 1 barrel racer Kassie Mowry returns to action and wins First Round in Greeley. In her first weekend competing since April 18, Mowry was 17.05 to win Round 1 of Greeley and currently sits fourth in the Average and also picked up a check in Pecos. She has only been to 10 rodeos this season and won money at nine of them.
