Austin can sometimes get lost in the Texas Swing shuffle, but this year’s rodeo in the capital of the Lone Star State gave fans plenty to talk about. From repeat winners to blazing-fast barrel racing runs and big scores in the bull riding, the action didn’t disappoint.

Also featured in this week’s Monday Notebook—more winning from Bradlee Miller, Tuf Cooper, and Dustin Egusquiza/Levi Lord.

Bareback rider Tanner Aus won the Semifinals and Finals of Rodeo Austin for the second straight year. Aus claimed the 24th of 24 spots in the Semifinals and took full advantage of sneaking into the Semifinals by riding for 87 points and then 91 in the Finals. Over the last two seasons, he is averaging 89.6 points in the last two rounds of Rodeo Austin.

Steer wrestler Tucker Allen followed up his RodeoHouston win with a victory in Cave Creek, Arizona. Allen said after his Houston win this would not slow him down so the World No. 1 went down to The Grand Canyon State and turned in a 4.3-second run to push his lead in the PRCA World Standings to over $50,000.

Bull rider Wacey Schalla made three straight qualified rides of 90+ point to win Rodeo Austin. In one of the most impressive stretches you’ll ever see, Schalla’s scores in Austin were 90.5, 90.5 and 91.5. In both the Semifinals and the Finals, Stetson Wright was at least 89 points, meaning the 19-year-old Schalla went toe-to-toe with his idol and won both times. He is 10-for-14 during the Texas Swing since starting 0-for-2 in Fort Worth.

Dustin Egusquiza/Levi Lord won the Ellis County Rodeo with a 3.4-second run. No pair has had more 3.7 Second or Faster runs over the last three seasons and Egusquiza/Lord made their fastest run of the season in Waxahachie. Both are No. 3 in the PRCA World Standings.

Brittany Pozzi Tonozzi won both the Long Round and the Short Round in Austin with the two fastest runs of the rodeo. Pozzi Tonozzi was 15.08 in Round 1 and 15.10 in the Finals and made three straight runs of 15.22 or faster when no other barrel racer had more than one. She has won Rodeo Austin twice and they came 20 years apart.

Bull rider TJ Gray won over $16,000 for a win at the PRCA Bull Riding in Tuacahn, Utah. Gray is No. 4 in the PRCA World Standings after a 90.5-point ride on Admiral Hustle won him the event. It was his highest marked and first 90+ Point Ride of the season. The last two cowboys to cover Admiral Hustle are Gray and reigning World Champion Josh Frost.

Tie-down roper Tuf Cooper is No. 6 in the World after competing at just seven rodeos this season. Cooper won over $11,000 for his first place finish in Rodeo Austin over the weekend, making him the first athlete in any event with multiple Texas Swing wins as he also won San Antonio last month.

No. 1 bareback rider Bradlee Miller won four of the five rodeos he entered during March. Over the weekend, he added victories in Walker County and Ellis County, Texas with rides of 89.5 and 88 points respectively. The one rodeo he did not win in March was RodeoHouston, where he finished second and made over $30,000. Miller now leads the PRCA World Standings by about $30,000.
