PBR Sacramento Recap: John Crimber Electrifies Golden 1 Center to get First Win of UTB Season

John Crimber dazzled in a perfect return-to-form performance in Sacramento this weekend where he won his first UTB event of the season and fourth of his career.
The two-time PBR Teams MVP entered the Golden 1 Center No. 10 in the World Standings and going the wrong direction. Crimber, despite his talent, struggled to string together consecutive rides, leaving him with the worst ride percentage in the Top 10.
Despite his situation, Crimber found exactly what he needed, and more, in California’s Capitol.
He finished the weekend a perfect 4-for-4, the first time since last February in Jacksonville he did not get bucked off all weekend.
Crimber chose Tigger with the second pick in the Championship Bull Draft. He had already ridden Tigger for 90.75 points at PBR Albuquerque last year and the choice paid off, as Crimber rode him for 88.65 points, snatching the event win away from his good pal Clay Guiton by just 0.15 points on aggregate, 351.85 to 351.70.
Crimber left the crowd with a favorite slogan of his, “GABOS,” after his Short Round ride, letting everyone know “Game Ain’t Built On Sympathy.”
Close, But No Cigar
Clay Guiton’s performance in Sacramento was the first time he was a perfect 4-for-4 over a UTB weekend. He has now finished second overall for the second straight week, despite winning the Short Round at each event.
In the Championship Round in Sacramento, Guiton stayed straight and square as can be for 89.75 points atop American Made put him in the event lead, but only temporarily, as Crimber proceeded to take the event win by just 0.15 points.
It might look unlucky, but Guiton has found a spark. He’s ridden nine of his last 11 Bulls, and has rocketed to second place in the World Standings.
Calm, Cool, Collected, Kasel
In front of Guiton, however, is Dalton Kasel, who remains at the top of the World Standings for the second straight week with 422 total points.
Kasel rode his first three bulls of the weekend, including an event-high 90.55-point ride on Sour Patch, winning him Round 2. It was the 2nd 90+ point ride this season for “Mr. 90-Point,” whom PBR announcer Craig Hummer renamed “Dr. 90-Point,” giving him his PHD in big rides.
Kasel had a chance to win on Oyster Creek Brawler, but was flipped off, hit the ground hard, and hobbled off.
Regardless, Kasel will enter Salt Lake with the highest riding percentage on Tour and has ridden eight of his last 10 bulls.
Hometown Heroics
Oakdale, California native Andy Guzman made his first qualified ride of his UTB career in front of the home crowd. He scored 87.35 points atop Simple Man in the Second Round and was showered with cheers.
Impressively, the 23-year-old still had more for the fans, as he rode again in Round 3 with 85.5 points on Black Tie. With that second qualified ride, Guzman qualified for the Short Round, another career first.
He had one more shot, atop BRUNT Haymaker, but was unsuccessful. Regardless, Guzman created some amazing moments in front of friends, family, and fans.
Leme Is (Almost) Back
Jose Vitor Leme had just found his consistency before being injured in his Round 3 ride. He won the First Round with an 89.2-point ride on Dirty Honey and followed that up with an 88.3-point ride on Nefarious in Round 2.
Leme was tied with Daniel Keeping for seventh through three rounds, but the injury kept him from riding in his second Short Round of the season. Despite the setback, Leme should be ready to go for PBR Salt Lake.
Team Challenge Results
The Nashville Stampede posted an impressive debut win against a loaded New York Mavericks squad.
Alan de Souza and Kaiden Loud bookended scoring rides for the Stampede.
De Souza, riding Pay Dirt, took a wild dismount over the railing after eight seconds. He was eligible for a re-ride but denied it, taking a selfless 66.35-point score.
Loud rode Hot Sauce for 89.1 points, bringing the Stampede total to 155.45. It would be Loud’s only ride of the weekend, though.
Marco Rizzo was the only Maverick to make a qualified ride on on Friday night, but it came too little too late. He posted an 88-point ride atop Magic Hunter in the last ride of the bout.
The Nashville Stampede (1-0) are fourth in the Team Challenge Standings, while the Mavericks (1-1) fell to fifth.
The Austin Gamblers vs Carolina Cowboys matchup featured the riders combining for five qualified rides and a total of 430.8 points. Of those, 430.8 points, 256.9 of them belonged to the Gamblers and they took home the win.
Every single rider who made the whistle in Friday’s Cowboy-Gambler matchup was present in Sunday’s Short Round and as a team, they have now totaled 171.3 more points than the next closest group.
The Cowboys have the second-most points in the Teams Challenge Standings with 350, but they’re 0-2 record currently puts them in ninth place.
