The next wave of athletes has secured their spots in the Semifinals and Wildcard Rounds in Fort Worth as the iconic rodeo continues at Dickies Arena. Let’s take a look at the bracket winners.

Bareback rider Gavin French, 22, punched his ticket to the next round with rides of 85.5 and 86 points—an impressive feat after clearing 80+ points just three times in 13 rides this season.

“I was supposed to ride in Denver’s Short Round, but I couldn’t pass up those two horses—I had to get on,” he said.

In steer wrestling, Eli Lord secured advancement by winning Round 1 and placing second in Round 2 with times in the 4s. Team ropers Dawson and Dillon Graham also advanced in a tight set where no pair earned more than $3,000.

Blaise Freeman led saddle bronc riding with scores of 80.5 and 84—his best rides this season.

Tie-down roping saw an upset as Minnesota’s Chance Oftedahl dominated both rounds with runs of 9.7 and 8.1.

“It’s been working great, draw good, rope good,” he said after Round 2. “Every day it’s a one-header here, so you might as well go at it.”

Barrel racer Tiany Schuster, eyeing an NFR return, placed second and third in her bracket.

Only three bull riders made the whistle, all advancing, but Gavin Mitchell was the big winner, claiming the entire $7,000 pot with a Round 2 ride.

QUICK DRAW

The tie-down roping in this bracket included Shane Hanchey and Hunter Herrin, who finished in second and third respectively. They have combined 29 NFR appearances while Oftedahl, the winner, has none.

The Bracket 2 winner in the saddle bronc riding, 27-year-old Blaise Freeman, has never finished better than No. 44 in the World.

Despite making the fastest barrel racing run of the rodeo so far (16.27 seconds), Jymmy Cox did not advance.

There were only three total qualified rides in the bull riding, everyone who made the whistle moved on.
