The sixth of seven brackets in Fort Worth concluded Sunday and that leaves only one remaining in the Progressive Rounds before the Wildcard and Semifinals.

In bareback riding, Jess Pope won more than 4,000 for an 86-point ride that got him second in Round 1 and an 85-pointer to win Round 2. It his second consecutive Semifinal appearance at the FWSSR and he will be joined by fellow 2024 NFR qualifier Cooper Cooke.

In a steer wrestling bracket that saw second place times of 10.1 seconds in Round 1 and 5.9 seconds in Round 2, Mike McGinn and Cody Devers were the steadiest of the bunch to move on with $3,290 apiece.

A pair of 4.3s won the two rounds of team roping and the Round 2 winners, Kreece Thompson/Jace Helton moved on, while the Round 1 winners Kellan Johnson/Carson Johnson did not. Cody Carter/Blake Bentley, who finished second and third in the two rounds, secured the second spot in the Semifinals behind Thompson/Helton.

Saddle bronc riding had an international tilt in Bracket 6 with the two Go-Round winners being Canadian standout Zeke Thurston and Aussie Jake Finlay who both made 89-point rides. Thurston’s countrymen Dawson Hay was the Wildcard.

Ty Harris is no stranger to Texas Swing success and he advanced first in the tie-down roping as the only cowboy over $3,000. He won Round 2 and Garrett Jacobs, the Round 1 winner, will join him in the Semifinals.

Barrel racing belonged to Halyn Lide who won both rounds. Her Round 2 time of 16.21 seconds is the third fastest of the rodeo.

Last but not leas was a thrilling bull riding that saw TJ Gray win Round 1 with 92 points on the fittingly named Rank Frank of Rafter G Rodeo and Justin Woodward win Round 2 with 88.5 points on Pete Carr’s Whiskey River. They both advanced along with World No. 1 Rawley Johnson as the Wildcard.

QUICK DRAW

All four bull rides in Bracket 6 were 88 points or better, including TJ Gray’s 92, the highest in Fort Worth since Trey Benton’s 92.5-point ride in the 2022 Wildcard Round.

Zeke Thurston and Jake Finlay’s 89-point bronc rides to win Rounds 1 and 2 respectively tie for the second highest of the rodeo through 12 performances. With those two and Dawson Hay advancing, no Americans made it out of Bracket 6.

Halyn Lide split the win in Round 1 and then improved her time by almost six tenths of a second to win Round 2 (16.68 to 16.21).
