The fourth stop on the Texas Swing delivered an outstanding Short Round on Saturday, featuring all three roughstock cowboys being marked 90 points or higher and some tightly contested timed event races.
The action kicked off with a repeat champion in the bareback riding, as Tanner Aus claimed victory in both the Semifinals and Finals for the second consecutive year. His winning ride, an impressive 91-point effort aboard Diamond G’s Good Girl, earned him more than $16,000 at the rodeo and propelled him to No. 13 in the PRCA World Standings.
In steer wrestling, Logan Kenline was the only cowboy to go sub-13 seconds on three head, posting a winning time of 12.9 seconds. The Finals came down to the wire, with Kenline finishing second to Will Lummus, who ended up just two-tenths of a second off the overall lead. The Top 7 steer wrestlers were separated by a mere second, a group that included Tyler Waguespack, Stetson Jorgensen, Don Payne, Clayton Hass, and Jesse Brown, alongside Kenline and Lummus.
In team roping, Marcus Theriot and Wyatt Cox have consistently increased their earnings at every Texas Swing stop this season. Their momentum culminated in Austin, where they secured the win with a three-head total of 13.9 seconds—more than a full second ahead of the competition. The victory vaulted both men into the Top 10 in the World Standings.
“Today is a really humbling day for me, had a horse accident this morning,” Theriot said. “I’m just blessed to be able to get the win tonight.”
“It’s been a heckuva winter and I’m looking forward to moving on,” Cox added.
In saddle bronc riding, three cowboys posted scores of 89 points or better, but Q Taylor topped them all, doubling his season earnings with a 90-point ride on Beutler & Son’s Hammer Stone. He edged out Stetson Wright and Lefty Holman to claim victory. The 23-year-old notched his second career PRCA Playoff Series win and his first Texas Swing title.
Tie-down roping came down to a tight battle between Tuf Cooper, Logan Bird, and Shane Hanchey. Cooper secured the win with a clutch 8.5-second run in the Short Round, bringing his three-head total to 27.1 seconds. Bird was right behind him, clocking 8.6 in the Finals to finish at 27.3 overall, while Hanchey posted a 9.0-second Short Round run and a total time of 27.6 seconds.
In breakaway roping, Rylee George got a an $11,280 payday for matching the second fastest run of the rodeo in the winner-take-all Short Round with a 1.7. Her three runs in Austin were all 2.1 seconds or faster.
Brittany Pozzi Tonozzi took first in the barrel racing by winning the First Round and the Finals with the two fastest runs of the rodeo, 15.08 and 15.10. The win came 20 years after she won Rodeo Austin for the first time in 2005.
“(My family and I) ride, we take care of the horses and we do everything together, so it’s really neat and special,” she said. “It’s just really awesome to win this close to home.”
Closing down the rodeo was Wacey Schalla, who dominated his event like no one in the seven others. The bull rider made three consecutive 90+ Point Rides and finished the job with a 91.5 on Gangster Walk, which was enough to best Stetson Wright by 2.5 points. Schalla and Wright are No. 1 and 2 in the PRCA World Standings.
“Stetson, he’s been my idol for so many years now and to be able to go and ride against guys like that in places like this, it’s amazing,” Schalla said. “I’m just extremely thankful to be here.”
QUICK DRAW
On the opposite end of the spectrum from steer wrestling, which had seven cowboys within a second of the winner, the team roping gap between No. 1 and No. 7 was 20.3 seconds. Over the last two seasons, Tanner Aus is averaging 89.6 points in the Austin Semifinals and Finals. But he almost didn’t get the opportunity in 2025—he tied for the last spot in the Semifinals. Q Taylor had a similar result to Aus, but in the Semifinals. He was part of a four-way tie for the last spot in the Short Round and then proceeded to win the rodeo. Wacey Schalla is 10-for-14 during the Texas Swing since starting 0-for-2 in Fort Worth. Stetson Wright furthered his lead in the PRCA All-Around World Standings with over $28,000 total in Austin for second place finishes in both the bronc riding and bull riding. Brittany Pozzi Tonozzi made three straight runs of 15.22 seconds or faster and no other barrel racer had more than one such time for the entire rodeo.RESULTS
