RodeoHouston Super Series 5 Recap: Past Champions Tristen Hutchings and Dalton Massey Among Those Who Shine

The Semifinals are set at the season’s highest paying rodeo after the competition of Super Series V of Monday.
Sam Petersen has advanced to the bareback riding Semifinals in Fort Worth and San Antonio already this season and had his best Quarterfinal showing of the year in Houston. He won $5,500 and finished with a second-place finish in Round 2 and a win in Round 3 for 86.5 points on Bailey Pro Rodeo’s Little Bug.
Kade Berry, who won matched Petersen for the highest score of the Super Series in his Round 1 win, Clay Jorgensen, and Tanner Aus also moved on. All of them made at least $4,000.
Dalton Massey won the first two rounds with runs of 4.9 and 4.4 seconds on his way to winning $6,875, the most of any steer wrestler so far. Massey won RodeoHouston in 2023.
Mike McGinn finished the Super Series with a 3.9-second run to Win Round 3 in the steer wrestling advance with $4,750. He finished third and fourth in Rounds 2 and 3. Meanwhile, Denell Henderson made $4,000 and Scott Guenthner banked $2,875.
In team roping, Jr. Dees and Landen Glenn earned $6,000 by finishing first, second, and third, in that order in the three rounds of Super Series V. All three of their times were between 5.3 and 6.0 seconds.
Behind them, were three pairs of NFR cowboys — Aaron Tsinigine/Jeremy Buhler ($4,500), Brenten Hall/Kaden Profili ($3,750), and Derrick Begay/Colter Todd ($3,750).
Damian Brennan matched permitholder Easton West as the highest earning bronc rider in Houston so far with $7,000. Brennan won Round 2 and came in second in Rounds 2 and 3 with three rides of 83.5 points or better.
Round 1 winner Layton Green tied for second in the Super Series with his fellow Canadian Kole Ashbacher with $4,500 apiece, and Ryder Wright was the last one to make it through with $2,875.
That quartet of advancing bronc riders has combined for 18 NFRs.
Tuf Cooper had just $2,040 earned on the season before RodeoHouston and brought that total $7,290 thanks to three times between 8.3 and 8.6 seconds. In Super Series v.
Just like in the bronc riding, all four tie-down ropers moving have made the National Finals. Haven Meged won $4,250, Dylan Hancock $3,750, and Brushton Minton $3,250.
LaTricia Duke won $7,000 in barrel racing by finishing second in two rounds and winning Round 2 with a 14.43-second run. It was the second-fastest run of the Super Series, trailing only Kassie Mowry’s 14.17, the fastest of the rodeo so far.
In addition to Kosel and Mowry, Round 1 winner Anita Ellis ($3,625) and Summer Kosel ($4,000) were the other Semifinalists.
Defending champion Tristen Hutchings is off to another strong start in the bull riding after two Go-Round Wins in Super Series V with a pair of rides that were 87 and 87.5 points. He is 12-for-20 on the season and coming off of a win at the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo.
Ruger Piva was also 2-for-3 and won Round 2 while Tyler Taylor and reigning NFR Average Champion TJ Gray also moved on.
In breakaway roping, Macy Young became the first cowgirl to win $47,00 and she did so with a pair of round wins to get things started. Beau Peterson won $6,000 for second in Round 1, third in Round 2, and a win in Round 3. It was Joey Williams and reigning World Champion Taylor Munsell getting the last two spots.
