Texas Swing take 2! The San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo got underway over the weekend with Bracket 1 action and four athletes in each event advancing to the Semifinals.

Rocker Steiner set the tone in the bareback riding in Bracket 1, stacking $7,431, $3,000 more than any of his competitors.

He was at least 85 points on all three of his horses and won the last two rounds of the bracket with rides of 85.5 and 87.5 points.

Cooper Cooke, Kade Sonnier, and Gavin French were the remaining bareback riders who moved on.

In steer wrestling, Stetson Jorgensen dominated Bracket 1, sweeping his way through with runs of 3.9, 4.0, and 4.1 seconds.

Jorgensen made $8,256, the maximum amount possible in Bracket 1, and was nearly $5,000 clear of second-place Colin Fox, who finished with $3,303. Dennell Henderson and Ryan Shuckburgh also advanced with $2,202 apiece.

In team roping, Fort Worth champion Trent Vaught had a new header, roping with Kellan Johnson rather than Corben Culley. The move paid off as they advanced as the top pair out of the bracket with $4,404.

The pair took fourth in the first two rounds of Bracket 1 before turning in a 4.9 for second in Round 3.

Also advancing was Johnson’s brother, Carson Johnson, who was roping with Cory Kidd V, as well as Nelson Wyatt/Jonathan Torres and Wyatt Bray/Tyler Worley. All four teams that moved on made between $4,404 and $3,302.

Saddle bronc riding belonged to Roper Kiesner, who made more than half of his $4,954 in Bracket 1 from a Round 1 win. Kiesner followed up his 86-point ride with an 83 for second in Round 2 and then failed to pick up a check in Round 3.

With $4,770, Lucas Macza finished hot on his heels thanks to three straight rides of 81.5 or 82 points to win three checks.

In tie-down roping, Brushton Minton won Round 1 with an 8.6-second run, while Tyson Durfey was second with 9 flat. Those two ended up being the top earners in Bracket 1 with $4,954 and $4,404, respectively.

Also advancing were Chantz Webster and Monty Lewis, the latter doing so in dramatic fashion by winning Round 3 with a 7.9 after not placing in the first two rounds.

Barrel racing was dominated by Emily Beisel, who won over $7,000 thanks to victories in Round 1 and Round 3. In Round 3, she was 14.27 seconds, which was the fastest run of the bracket. Katie Halbert, who finished third or better in every round, also made over $5,000 to advance, while Jordan Driver, the Round 2 winner, and Hailey Garrison Graham rounded out the quartet of Semifinal cowgirls.

Cody McElroy, Cimarron Rucker, Cullen Telfer, and Mason Moody all rode multiple bulls to begin their stays in San Antonio.

McElroy led the way with a 3-for-3 showing to bank $5,321, while Rucker matched that number thanks to a Round 2 win with 87 points and a second-place finish in Round 3.

Perhaps the biggest story, though, was who did not make it out. Stetson Wright covered his first bull for 85.5 points to split the Go-Round with Moody and proceeded to get bucked off his next two. His $2,477 was not enough to move on.

In breakaway roping, Sawyer Gilbert and Cadee Williams each reeled in $4,404, while Kirby Rawlinson, who won Round 1 with a 1.7, and Erin Johnson, the Round 2 winner, joined them in the Semifinals.
