Bracket 5 in Fort Worth featured a trio of roughstock sweeps over the weekend.
In the bareback riding, it was all about Tilden Hooper, making his return to Fort Worth after missing all of 2023 and much of the 2024 season. Not missing a beat would be selling the 37-year-old short. Hooper rode both Resistol’s Risky Business and Night Flight less than 18 hours apart to seal his spot in the Semifinals.
“That was pretty fun, I knew I had a pretty good chance and that horse was even better than I expected,” he told The Cowboy Channel’s Sierra Spratt after his first ride. “All my family is here, I gotta a bunch of friends here. It’s fun to get to come show off in front of everybody.”
This season, Hooper has four outs and three of them have been worth 90 or more. He has only finished first or second in Go-Rounds so far.
Statler Wright may as well be Mr. Fort Worth. After winning both rounds in his Bracket in 2024, he did the same in ’25 with rides of 84.5 and 87 points. He has seven straight rides of 84.5 or better in Dickies Arena dating back to 2023.
Hooper wasn’t the only roughstock cowboy come back with a bang in Bracket 5. Bull rider Trey Holston returned Dec. 21 after a back injury in July of 2024 and he rode for 87 and 89.5 points. He is 4-for-5 at the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo in his career.
Holston, who made the NFR in 2022 and 2023, has been 86 points or better on seven of his last 10 qualified rides dating back to the 2024 season.
QUICK DRAW
Tilden Hooper this year and Rocker Steiner in 2024 are the only bareback riders to make back-to-back 90+ point rides in Fort Worth since at least 2012. Tie-down roper Brushton Minton advanced No. 1 in Bracket 5 after rising to No. 5 in the PRCA World Standings following his National Western win. After not competing in Fort Worth last year, barrel racer Jordon Briggs won Bracket 5, Round 1 and advanced to the Semifinals. The last time she competed in Dickies Arena she finished fourth.RESULTS
