Six-Time NFR Qualifier Haven Meged Out 30 Days With Lower Back Injury

After a practice pen injury last month, six-time NFR qualifier Haven Meged has opted to take a month off to heal his body for the rest of the season.

Meged, known for his maniacal work ethic, told Kendra Santos he ran too many big calves one day and suddenly felt his body shutdown. He tried to rope through the pain at a few rodeos in Canada this month, but said it was unbearable. He had trouble just driving and walking.

“I told Shelby, ‘I’m going to wreck my body if I stay out here,’” Haven said. “The pain was unbearable, and nothing—not ice, not heat, not the strongest Ibuprofen they make—touched it. It was the worst pain ever for three days. I knew I needed an MRI,” he told Santos.

The verdict was that it was likely a bulging or ruptured disc and that he would need to sit out for at least 30 days.

Meged is ranked No. 19 in the PRCA World Standings currently and is hoping to avoid surgery and return by Ogden Pioneer Days.
