It was a big weekend for Idaho with two of the state’s five Playoff Series Rodeos taking place at the same time about 125 miles apart. In its 101st year, the Caldwell Night Rodeo paid out over $350,000 and once again proved why it is the pride of Canyon County.

In bareback riding, 21-year-old Mason Yancy got the biggest win of his young pro career so far. He was 171.5 on two and earned a total of $9,047. He was three points ahead of second-place finisher Andy Gingerich.

Steer wrestling saw Holden Myers get what could be the biggest win of his career for a different reason. After slipping outside the Top 20 in the PRCA World Standings, the RodeoHouston runner-up popped back up to No. 15 by making runs of 4.0 and 4.1 seconds to win the Average in Caldwell.

Team roping was a similar story to steer wrestling with Dawson Graham/Dillon Graham getting the win to go to No. 18 and No. 16 in the World respectively. Dawson is about $2,000  out of an NFR spot while Dillon is about $1,000 away. They were 8.8 seconds on two to defeat two-time World Champions Kaleb Driggers/Junior Nogueira by one-tenth of a second.

Ross Griffin got his first PRCA Playoff Series win of the year in the saddle bronc riding 173.5 on two. He also won Round 1 with 88 points on Outlawbuckers’ OLS Tubs Magic Carpet.

Tie-down roping was a tie between Hayden Ford and World No. 2 Shad Mayfield at 17.6 seconds on two and Katelyn Scott won the barrel racing by the slimmest of margins, 33.83 to 33.84 over Tricia Aldridge.

The only one-header in Caldwell was the bull riding and Trevor Reiste won that event in style with 92.5 points on Powder River’s Peanut. It was the highest marked ride of his career.
