The Morning Kick, Sept. 9: Is It Will Lummus or Jesse Brown’s Year in the Steer Wrestling?
The Morning Kick, Sept. 9: Is It Will Lummus or Jesse Brown’s Year in the Steer Wrestling?
Two of the best steer wrestlers of the decade are on a collision course in 2025. Will Lummus and Jesse Brown currently sit No. 1 and No. 2 in the PRCA World Standings with just three weeks left in the regular season, and the battle for their first career gold buckle is heating up.
Lummus has been the definition of consistency, finishing second in the world three of the last four years, often losing the title in heartbreaking fashion. Despite earning over $1 million since 2020, he has never entered the NFR as the frontrunner, until now. This year, he holds a $30,000 edge over Brown and is determined to finally finish the job.
Brown, the former Washington State quarterback, has been just as steady, landing in the Top 6 for four straight years. Known for his speed on fast setups, he’s won major rodeos in Fort Worth and San Angelo, including a blazing 2.9-second run, the fastest of the season. His latest win in Puyallup put him back into striking distance.
The season will climax at the Governor’s Cup in Sioux Falls, a preview of the NFR stage. Can Lummus finally break through, or will Brown, or another contender, steal the spotlight?
