Playoffs, playoffs, playoffs. Every single winner at the Washington State Fairgrounds in Puyallup over the weekend booked a spot in the Governor’s Cup and won at least $13,400.

In bareback riding, Jacek Frost got a timely win to move up from No. 23 to No. 20 in the PRCA World Standings with 91.5 on Brookman Rodeo’s Lunatic Heaven. Rocker Steiner and Wacey Schalla tied for second at 90 apiece while Jake Lees rounded out a terrific Short Round with 88.5 points of his own.

Rylee George was victorious with a 2.4-second in the breakaway roping, which put her 1.3 seconds ahead of second place. The win moved her up to No. 12 in the WPRA World Standings.

In steer wrestling, World No. 2 Jesse Brown was 3.6 to best World No. 1 Will Lummus, who was 3.8 in the Short Round. Brown, who has been No. 2 or No. 3 all summer, made four straight runs of 4.9 seconds or faster in Puyallup.

In team roping, Clint Summers/Jade Corkill both cracked the Top 5 in the World Standings for the first time this season after a 4.3 won them the title. It is their first year as partners and they are now both within $10,000 of No. 1 after both began the Summer Run outside the Top 35.

Dawson Hay claimed an all-Canada saddle bronc riding Final, besting his brother Logan, cousin Ben Andersen, and four-time World Champion Zeke Thurston. Dawson fittingly one it on a Canadian horse with 89.5 points on Calgary’s Freedom Xpress.

In tie-down roping, it was World No. 1 Riley Webb coming out on top and he broke the regular season earnings record in the process at $287,761. It is the fourth straight year the regular season earnings record has changed hands between Webb and current World No. 2 Shad Mayfield. Since Aug. 28, Webb has eight times of 8.7 or faster.

To close out the first leg of the Playoffs, Halyn Lide won the barrel racing with a 13.76-second run while Ky Hamilton finished 3-for-4 in the bull riding, winning the rodeo with 88.5 on Brookman’s Laughing Gas.

QUICK DRAW

Over the last two seasons, all eight rides in the bareback riding Finals in Puyallup have been 88 points or better. Five of them have been 90 or better.

It is the second straight year that the World No. 1 entering the rodeo won the tie-down roping, Shad Mayfield was 7.4 seconds in 2024.

Halyn Lide won the barrel racing after taking second last year.

There were three arena records broken during the rodeo. Clay Smith/Nicky Northcott were 3.7 seconds in the team roping. Katie Halbert was 13.54 in the barrel racing in the first performance only to see Anita Ellis stop the clock at 13.52 seconds the next day.

The winning bull rider has not been a perfect 4-for-4 in either of the last two seasons.
