2025 NFR Tie-Down Roping Preview: Riley Webb Eyes a Three-Peat

2025 NFR Tie-Down Roping Preview: Riley Webb Eyes a Three-Peat

Published On: December 3, 2025Categories: Featured

In the tie-down roping over the last three seasons, there has been a clear hierarchy: Riley Webb, then Shad Mayfield, then the rest of the field.

Webb and Mayfield have traded the regular season earnings record back and forth every year since Mayfield broke it in 2022. Webb broke Mayfield’s record in 2023, Mayfield proceeded to break Webb’s in 2024, and then Riley took it back this season.

However, the clear advantage in Las Vegas over the last two years has gone to Webb. A season ago, he won his second straight Gold Buckle, won the Average, and finished second in the RAM Top Gun Standings with $250,000 in Las Vegas. It was also the second straight year he left with the full season earnings record.

So in 2025, the hierarchy remains unchanged. Webb enters No. 1, Mayfield No. 2, and the next closest cowboy is $70,000 behind.

1. Riley Webb – $305,132.00

The winner of the last two Gold Buckles was dominant from start to finish in 2025. He took over the No. 1 spot in the World Standings after winning RodeoHouston and never gave it up, breaking the regular season earnings record along the way.

Webb led the PRCA in wins among tie-down ropers with a dozen and made a total of 29 runs of 8.0 seconds or faster, which was also tops in the PRCA.

In Vegas the last two seasons, he has left with the full season earnings record and won six Go-Rounds inside the Thomas & Mack.

2. Shad Mayfield – $256,310.00

Mayfield logged his fourth straight regular season over $200,000 and logged PRCA Playoff wins in Calgary, Fort Worth, San Angelo, Caldwell, Vernal, and Odessa along the way.

For the fourth straight season, he has led the PRCA in runs of 7.5 Seconds or Faster with 10 in 2025.

Mayfield is coming off the best NFR of his career in 2024. He placed in four rounds and finished fourth in the Average to win $111,062. He has won over $100,000 in Las Vegas each of the last two seasons.

3. Kincade Henry – $186,718.38

The 23-year-old made his fourth straight NFR and surged to No. 3 in the World at season’s end by winning the Governor’s Cup.

He registered a qualified time on more than 80 percent of his runs during the regular season and had six runs of 7.5 Seconds or Faster, giving him 13 for the last two seasons, which gives him more in that span than any tie-down roper other than Wbb and Mayfield.

His best career finish is No. 8 in the World Standings and this will be his fourth straight NFR at just 23-years-old.

4. John Douch – $174,969.71

Douch has finished in the Top 10 every year since 2021 and while he didn’t have a signature win in 2025, he finished second at the Governor’s Cup and third in Calgary and San Antonio.

For the second straight season, he was in the Top 8 in the PRCA in both runs of 8.0 seconds or faster and runs of 7.5 seconds or faster.

5. Dylan Hancock – $172,04.48

The 21-year-old finished sixth a year ago and followed it up with the best regular season of his young career. He finished second at the Governor’s Cup and won Pendleton in September.

During the regular season, he also had a stretch from July 9-26 in which he won more than $40,000.

In his NFR debut in 2024, he won two rounds.

6. Riley Pruitt – $165,787.48

Pruitt is back at the NFR for the first time since 2019 thanks to a regular season that included wins at the NFR Open and Roughrider Cup. He needs $61,000 in Las Vegas to make this the winningest season of his career.

He is tied for third among NFR qualifiers with eight runs of 7.5 Seconds or Faster.

7. Marty Yates – $156,610.51

At just 31-years-old, Yates has already collected 11 NFR appearances. He has finished in the Top 10 nine times since 2014 and from 2016-2022, he won multiple rounds at seven straight NFRs.

Yates started his Summer Run with an Average win at the Snake River Stampede and a Round 1 win in Reno and turned things up a notch in August by winning $20,000 in the first nine days of the month.

8. Tom Crouse – $147,808.43

Crouse finished the season by finishing fourth or better in Puyallup, the Roughrider Cup, and the Governor’s Cup. This will the 26-year-old’s first NFR appearance.

He ranked sixth among NFR qualifiers in Average Time and tied for fifth in Runs of 7.5 Seconds or Faster.

9. Brushton Minton – $145,643.52

Minton got rolling all the way back on Dec. 29 by winning the California Circuit Finals and carried that momentum into a first place finish at the National Western with a 7.3-second run. Two weeks later he found himself in the Finals in Fort Worth as well.

As for the Summer Run, his best showing was second place finish at the NFR Open that won him $13,000 for the weekend.

Minton is making his second trip to the NFR and will look to improve on his 15th place finish in 2023. He has already earned more in 2025 than he did that season.

10. Joel Harris – $140,854.95

Harris made his first NFR in 2024 and made a statement by snagging two Go-Round wins. In 2025, only Kyle Lucas had a higher percentage of qualified times than Harris.

He finished the year with a big September. He placed in six rodeos and won $23,707, $12,504 of which came from a second place finish in the Average in Pendleton.

11. Zack Jongbloed – $137,678.37

Jongbloed has now made the NFR three of the last four seasons and in his previous two appearances, he has placed in 11-of-20 rounds.

He had a qualified time on 79 percent of his runs this season and notched six wins. Both marks were good enough for Top 10 in the PRCA. His biggest win of the season came in Ponoka.

12. Ty Harris – $137,196.54

Harris took a gunslinger’s mentality into the 2025 regular season, he ranked first in Average Time, but 14th in Qualified Time Percentage.

This will be his seventh straight NFR appearance, he won two Go-Rounds and placed in five rounds in 2025.

13. Haven Meged – $133,805.27

Meged’s No. 13 in the World entering the NFR, but he’s far better than the 13th best tie-down roper on the planet.

He missed a month of the regular season and rose 18 spots to make his seventh straight NFR, still winning a total of 11 rodeos along the way. That number was tied for second among NFR qualifiers and he also ranked behind only Harris in Average Time.

As for how he does in Las Vegas…He has the arena record, Average record, and a World Title.

14. Kyle Lucas – $129,297.74

It has been a dream year for Lucas, who made his first National Finals and won his first Canadian title at age 31. He led the PRCA in Qualified Time Percentage.

15. Shane Hanchey – $126,956.85

Hanchey dramatically made his 16th straight NFR by jumping into the Top 15 on the final weekend of the regular season. He is far and away the most experienced tie-down roper in the World.

Last year, he placed second in five rounds and finished second in the Average. He has two NFR Average titles and a World Title in his career.

Over the last two seasons, 7-of-20 NFR Go-Rounds have been won with a time in the 6s.

Since 2021, only Caleb Smidt, who is now retired, and Riley Webb have Gold Buckles. They have averaged $211,286 in Las Vegas in their World Title seasons.

In 2024, the average round winning time was 7.19 seconds. It was 7.01.

Between 2016 and 2022, Marty Yates won two Go-Rounds at seven straight NFRs.

Shane Hanchey’s streak of 16 straight NFRs is the most of any tie-down roper and second-longest of all NFR qualifiers. Only Lisa Lockhart has more at 19.

The tie-down field is loaded, but it still comes down to Riley Webb versus Shad Mayfield. Over the last four years, they’ve traded regular-season earnings records, Shad in 2022 and 2024, Riley in 2023 and 2025.

Last year, Riley entered No. 4, trailed Shad by $70,000, then won three of the first four rounds, took the Average, and the World Title. One-tenth of a second in Round 8 could have flipped everything.

Expect fast runs once again at the NFR as well, 7.19 was the average winning time in 2024. And don’t sleep on Ty Harris, Haven Meged, Shane Hanchey or Joel Harris and Dylan Hancock, both of whom won two Go-Rounds in their NFR debuts a year ago.

This episode of Fantasy Rodeo Picks, presented by Virgin Hotels and US Cowboy, breaks down how to build a winning NFR fantasy roster in tie-down roping. With a $600,000 budget, success comes down to four key stats: qualified time percentage, average time, runs of 8.0 seconds or faster, and round wins at 7.5 or faster.

Riley Webb stands out as the top-tier pick, a back-to-back world champion and proven Go-Round winner in Las Vegas, but his price tag means only one or two true stars can realistically fit on a balanced roster.

Shad Mayfield brings high-risk, high-reward potential, while Dylan Hancock, Kincade Henry, and John Douch offer upside if you’re willing to spend on a top calf roper.

Tie-down roping also delivers strong value plays. Shane Hanchey is one of the best bargains in the field with 16 NFR appearances and multiple Average titles.

Haven Meged offers major upside at a low cost. Kyle Lucas leads the PRCA in Qualified Time Percentage, while Joel and Ty Harris provide consistency at affordable prices.

This is the fifth event, and it’s a pivot point. Get this one right and you give yourself serious flexibility for the rest of your roster.
