NFR Round 6 Recap: Stetson Wright’s Wild Night, Team Roping Race Heats Up and More
NFR Round 6 Recap: Stetson Wright’s Wild Night, Team Roping Race Heats Up and More

Round 6 was one of the most memorable nights in recent memory at the National Finals Rodeo, and not necessarily for all of the right reasons.
Stetson Wright was called for missing his saddle bronc horse out, a call that the broadcast team (and seemingly everyone on social) disagreed with. It was upheld and it sent him tumbling for No. 1 to No. 9 in the Average and potentially took him out of the World Title race in the process.
But there’s a reason Stetson has gotten the Superman moniker. He channeled his anger in the bull riding, spurring like hell aboard Stockyards Pro Rodeo’s Insurrection to win the round with 88.5 points.
Afterward, he was not shy in his feelings about what happened.
“I was kind of making jokes of the whole deal because as you guys all saw, it was a joke, so I was going to continue to make it that way,” he said. “I’m not an Average rider, I’ve never been a guy who chases Average titles. I’ve got eight Gold Buckles and one Average title, so there’s a lot that goes into my riding, but one way to explain it wouldn’t be average.”
There was, of course, still plenty of other action to get through as we continue to barrel toward the second weekend of the 2025 National Finals.
Kade Sonnier got his first career Go-Round win in the bareback riding with 88 points aboard Sankey Pro Rodeo’s Land of Fancy. He placed in the Top 4 in the two rounds prior with rides of 87.75 and 86.75.
In the World Title race, Rocker Steiner still has a lead of more than $100,000 and sits third in the Average.
Ty Erickson launched himself back into the World Title race in the bulldogging with a 3.5-second run to win his second Go-Round of 2025. Tucker Allen finished out of the money, but leads the Average and is the Projected World Champion. World No. 1 Will Lummus tightened up the Projected Standings with a 4.6 for fourth.
In the fastest round of team roping we have seen at this year’s Finals, Tanner Tomlinson/Travis Graves won Round 6 with a 3.4-second run.
Clint Summers/Jade Corkill were No. 2 with a 3.5 and the World Title race has gotten awfully hairy in this event.
Tomlinson is No. 1 in the World while Graves is No. 2. Summers is behind Tomlinson and because Tomlinson and Graves have different season earnings totals, Jade Corkill is in front of Graves.
In the Projected World Standings, Summers/Corkill have the edge. They lead the Average as the only pair to catch all six.
Lost in the shuffle of the Stetson drama in the bronc riding was the fact his brother Statler won the round on the same horse Stetson won Round 1 on, Wayne Vold’s Renegade.
It was Statler’s second Go-Round win of 2025.
The World Title race in the bronc riding may be even muddier than the team roping. With Stetson dropping out of the money in the Average, Zeke Thurston moved up to No. 1 in both the NFR Average and Projected World Standings.
Tie-down roping remains unchanged at the top as Shad Mayfield and Riley Webb were both 7.5 to split fourth in a round that it took 7.6 or better to get a check.
Joel Harris was the round winner with a 6.8 to make his third trip to the Southpoint on just 16 career runs inside the Thomas & Mack.
In barrel racing, Kassie Mowry took control of the chase for the Gold Buckle by stopping the clock at 13.43 seconds. The reigning World Champion is No. 1 in the Average and has won a Go-Round on two different horses in 2025.
