San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo Bracket 5 Recap: Ty Harris Sweeps Tie-Down Roping, More Wrights Move On, and More

With the conclusion of San Antonio’s Bracket 5, all of the qualifying athletes have officially emerged. The Semifinals begin Thursday night.
Jacob Lees earned three checks in Bracket 5, including a Round 2 win where he was 85.5 on Calgary Stampede’s Enuff Cherry to be the top bareback riding qualifier of Bracket 5.
Leighton Berry was 85.5 on Cervi Championship Rodeo’s High Rolling Sid to win Round 1. He paired that with an 84 in the Second Round for a total of $4,679 and the second qualifier spot.
Jess Pope was 86.5 on Pickett Pro Rodeo’s Co’s So Fancy to win Round 3, the highest score in Bracket 5. He finished with $4,403 as the third qualifier while Dean Thompson collected two checks as the final advancing bareback rider.
The past seven Round winners in San Antonio this year have each been under 4 seconds in the steer wrestling.
In Bracket 5, J.D. Struxness was 3.5 to win Round 1. He was 3.8 in Round 3. He earned $4,954 and the top qualifying spot. Five-time World Champion Tyler Waguespack was the most consistent in the bracket, finishing in the money all three rounds. His $4,403 was good for second place.
Meanwhile, 2025 World Champion Tucker Allen and Clay Tom Hurt both advanced with $3,853 each.
Lightning Aguilera and Wyatt Cox were an event-fastest 3.6 to win Round 2. They collected two checks for $4,954 each. Cody Snow and Hunter Koch earned the same amount.
Also qualifying was 2025 World Champions Andrew Ward and Jake Long, who nabbed two checks for $3,853 and advanced as the third qualifiers while new pair Coleman Proctor and Travis Graves advanced with just one check from their 4.2-second Round 1 win.
Brothers Rusty and Ryder Wright dominated Bracket 5, advancing in the first and second positions.
Ryder, the 2025 Reserve World Champion was in the money every round, while Rusty only collected two checks. The brothers shared a Round 3 win, tying with 86 points. However, Rusty was also 87 to win the First Round, giving him $5,229 to Ryder’s $4,679.
Sage Newman covered two Broncs and shared the Round 2 win with Kolby Wanchuk. They round out the advancing bronc riders.
Ty Harris made a clean sweep of Bracket 5’s tie-down roping, winning all three rounds. Harris was 7.8, 9.6, and 7.9 in his outings to earn $7,981 and the top qualifying spot. Cory Solomon finished next with $3,578. He cashed out twice, sharing the Round 2 win with Harris.
Logan Bird and Joel Harris found the money twice each to claim the last two Semifinal spots.
Michelle Alley was 14.14 and 14.11 in her First Round and Third Round wins. She collected $5,504 as the top qualifier in the barrel racing. Wenda Johnson was 14.36 to win Round 2 and finished second in Round 3, collecting $4,954 as the next barrel racer to advance.
Morgan Bagnell cashed in each round, earning $4,403. She qualified alongside 2025 World Champion Kassie Mowry as the last two Semifinalists.
In bull riding, Tristen Hutchings was the top qualifier, winning two rounds and earning $7,247. He was 85 on Bailey Pro Rodeo’s Buckle Up to win Round 2. He followed that up with an 89.5 on Pickett Pro Rodeo Co’s Feeling Dangerous to win the Third Round.
Qynn Andersen, Colten Fritzlan, and Colton Bryam each made the while twice to finalize Bracket 5’s qualifiers.
In breakaway roping, Rylee A George was 1.8 seconds to win Round 1 and placed in each round, earning $6,146 as the top qualifier.
Beau Peterson and Taylor Munsell won Rounds 2 and 3 respectively, but still qualified behind Kinlie Brennise. Brennise earned $4,220 from a pair of second-place finishes.
