An Update on the San Angelo Stock Show and Rodeo Heading into the Second Weekend

We’ve about reached the halfway point of the action in San Angelo as it inches closer to the Short Round, and conclusion of the high-paying Texas Swing.

The timed events have already begun their Semifinal Rounds while in the roughstock, where there is only a Long Round and a Short Round, there is much more to sort out.

Here’s how things look in each event…

Bareback Riding
Four-time NFR qualifier Leighton Berry has had a productive season since coming back from a hip injury last September. Berry reached new heights, though, with his ride in San Angelo’s First Round. He rode Korkow Rodeos’ Tater Tot for 92 points and is in position for a Round 1 win. It’s his best ride since he was 93 on Shrek to win San Antonio back in 2023.

It’s good for his second 90+ ride of the season and Berry currently sits 13th in the World Standings.

Cole Reiner sits in second with 88.5 points on Dixie’s Gravy, while Cooper Cooke and Jayco Roper tied with 86 each.

Steer Wrestling
Chase Crane leads all bulldoggers in the Average with 15.3 seconds on three head. The 36-year-old won the Second Round with an event-best 3.6. It was his fifth round win of the season.

Grant Petersen is a close second, going 15.7 seconds on three head. Tony Aska at 16.4 and Ty Allred at 17.5 are the only others to be sub-20 in the Average so far.

Team Roping
Paden Bray and Ketch Kelton lead by nearly a second in the Average with a total time of 14.9 seconds through their first three runs. They lead Cory Kidd V/Carson Johnson by 0.8 seconds and the next closest pair after that is Kavis Drake/Denim Ross at 18.9.

Stefan Ramone/Kelby Frizzell were 3.9 to win the First Round, while rookies Conley Kleinhans/Kyler Kanady won the Second Round with the same time. With a 3.7, Tanner Tomlinson/Coleby Payne, who are roping for the final time together before Tomlinson teams up with three-time World Champion Wesley Thorp, lead the Semifinals.

Saddle Bronc
Four-time World Champion Zeke Thurston kept his foot on the gas after winning Rodeo Austin, now leading San Angelo’s First Round with an 87.5-point ride on Pete Carr Pro Rodeo’s Uptuck, edging out Damian Brennan and Mitchell Story’s 87s. It’s Thurston’s sixth 87.5+ ride this season, and his third in a row.

Tie-Down Roping
Beau Cooper has been the best through three runs by over a second with an aggregate time of 26.2 seconds. San Angelo native Joel Harris is next best on three at 27.3 seconds.

All three of Cooper’s runs were faster than 10 seconds and his 8.1 in Round 2 was his fastest run of the year so far.

Barrel Racing
Just 0.03 seconds separate the top five barrel racers in San Angelo. Kelya Costa and Linday Sears both lead the Average with 30.52 seconds through two runs. Julie Plourde checks in at 30.54, while Julia Johnson and Sarah Robert are each 30.55 on two head.

Bull Riding
John Crimber has continued to impress in his rookie PRCA campaign. He made his first career 90-point ride aboard New West Rodeo Productions’ Payday to lead Round 1 in San Angelo and cover an unridden bull in the process.

No. 2 man in the World Tristen Hutchings is in second currently thanks to 87 points on Pete Carr Pro Rodeo’s Ringo. Only eight bull riders recorded a qualified ride in the First Round, including Crimber’s fellow PBR competitor Kaiden Loud, who was 83 on Pete Carr Pro Rodeo’s Fault Line.

Breakaway Roping
Amy Ohrt leads all breakaway ropers in San Angelo, going 5.0 seconds through two head. She leads Haiden Thompson by 0.4 and Rylee George by 0.7 seconds.

Danielle Lowman was 1.9 seconds to win the First Round and there is currently a four-way tie at 2.1 seconds in the Semifinals. Bradi Good, Millie Greenwood, Hailey Hall, and Tibba Smith recorded those runs.
