How Every Finalist Made it to Championship Sunday of RodeoHouston

Sunday, March 23 is the richest day of rodeo on the PRCA calendar. The winners of RodeoHouston will claim an unprecedented $65,000 toward the World Standings this season.

All 10 athletes in each event will compete in the Championship Round before a winner-take-all Shootout between the final four remaining.

Here is who is up Sunday, and how they got there.

Bareback Riding 

Clay Jorgenson – Jorgenson won two rounds in his Super Series and also won Semifinal 2. The only round he didn’t win, he bucked off, and all three of his rides have been 86 points or better.

Jess Pope – Pope has been remarkably consistent, all four of his rides have been between 84 and 85.5 points and he is finished second or third in all four rounds he has competed in.

Sam Petersen – Petersen punched the very last ticket to Championship Sunday by winning Wild Card 2 with 89 points, the highest marked ride of the rodeo so far.

Dean Thompson – Thompson won his Super Series with $6,500 and then grabbed the very last spot from Semifinal 2.

Orin Larsen – Larsen has been living on the edge for the entire rodeo. He advanced out of his Super Series via tiebreaker and also advanced out of Semifinal 1 via tiebreaker.

Bradlee Miller – Miller enters as the World No. 1 and all four of his rides have been 82 points or better so far.

Rocker Steiner – Steiner has won a check on all four of his rides, including an 86.5-pointer to win Super Series 4, Round 3.

Cole Reiner – Reiner finished fourth in his Super Series with $2,500 and then almost equaled that amount by adding $2,000 with an 85-point ride in Semifinal 1.

Mason Stuller – The 21-year-old won Wild Card 1 with his highest marked ride of the rodeo, 86.5 points on Pete Carr’s Night Faded.

Mason Clements – Clements has won his last two Go-Rounds, tying for the win in Round 3 of his Super Series and winning Semifinal 1 with 86.5 points on The Cervi Brothers’ Tarzan.

Steer Wrestling 

Tyler Pearson – Pearson finished third or better and made a 4 flat run in his Super Series and then won a tiebreaker over reigning champion Dakota Eldridge when both when both were 5.7 in Semifinal 2.

Stephen Culling – Culling’s last two runs have been two of the fastest of the rodeo. He was 4.4 for second in Round 3 in Super Series 4 and shared the Semifinal 1 victory with Ty Erickson with a 4.6.

Eli Lord – Lord has gotten faster on every run and his last three have been 5.7, 5.0, and 4.5, the latter getting him second place in Semifinal 2.

Tucker Allen – Allen was the winner of Wild Card 2 with a 5.2-second run and also made $4,000 in his Super Series.

Ty Erickson – Erickson won Semifinal 1 along with Culling and before that made three straight runs of 6.1 seconds or faster in his Super Series.

Ryan Shuckburgh – The RodeoHouston rookie made more than any other bulldogger in the Progressive Rounds with $6,375 and then tied for third with a 5 flat in Semifinal 1.

Tyler Waguespack – Waguespack has made two 4.4-second runs, one to win Round 2 of Super Series 1 and another to win Semifinal 2.

Dalton Massey – Massey was one-tenth off the fastest run of the rodeo with a 4.1 to win Wild Card 2. He also won Round 1 of Super Series 1.

Holden Myers – Myers won $4,000 in Super Series 3 and then made his fastest run of the rodeo, a 4.5, to split second in Semifinal 2.

Cash Robb – Robb has made three runs of 5.2 or faster and was 5 flat in the Semifinal 2.

Team Roping 

Jake Smith/Douglas Rich – It hasn’t been pretty, but they have done just enough to advance at every turn. However, they have won just $2,250 along the way.

Lightning Aguilera/Patrick Smith – They are on the opposite end of the earnings spectrum from Smith/Rich as they have won $9,000 already, most recently totaling $3,000 for 4.9 that won them Wild Card 1.

Tanner Tomlinson/Travis Graves – They won $4,000 in Super Series 1, including a 4.3 to win Round 3, and then won Semifinal 1 with a 5.5.

Derrick Begay/Colter Todd – Begay/Todd have placed fourth or better in every round they have competed in and are coming off their best run of the rodeo with a 5.1 in Semifinal 2.

Tyler Wade/Wesley Thorp – The reigning World Champions have been 6.4 or better on their last three runs after starting the rodeo with a 12 flat. They shared third with Smith/Rich in Semifinal 1.

Clay Smith/Coleby Payne – They have made all three Texas Swing Finals this season and won Semifinal 2 with a 4.8.

Erich Rogers/Kollin VonAhn – They have been 5.6 or faster on three of their four runs and got the fourth and final spot from Semifinal 2 by one tenth of a second.

Coy Rahlmann/Cole Curry – Spot No. 10 of 10 on Championship Sunday went to them as they turned in a 4.8 to win Wild Card 2 on Saturday.

Dillon Graham/Dawson Graham – They have only placed on two runs, but it has been enough to win them $5,000 and book a trip to the Championship Shootout.

Clint Summers/Paul Eaves – Summers/Eaves have been 6.4 or faster on all four of their runs and their Semifinal time of 4.9 seconds was their best yet.

Saddle Bronc Riding 

Statler Wright – Wright has been 84 or better on his last three rides and won Semifinal 1 with 88.5 points on Calgary Stampede’s Yesterday’s Delivery.

Damian Brennan – The reigning champion here has been marked between 83 and 84.5 points on his last three rides and finished second in Semifinal 1 to Statler.

Ryder Wright – Ryder finished third in Semifinal 1 after winning two Go-Rounds on his way to $6,750 in Super Series 5.

Ben Andersen – Andersen made the highest marked saddle bronc ride of the rodeo with 89 points in Round 3 of Super Series 3 and then won Wild Card 2 to grab the last spot in the Championship Shootout.

Layton Green – Green finished second in Super Series 2 and then snatched the fourth and final spot from Semifinal 2. He has been 80.5 or better on all four rides.

Kolby Wanchuk – Wanchuk has made two 86.5-point rides in Houston this year, the most recent one getting him second in Semifinal 1.

Weston Patterson – Patterson enters with $11,000 after making $8,000 to win Super Series 4 and $3,000 for a victory in the First Wild Card.

Logan Hay – Hay won the first and fourth rounds he competed in at RodeoHouston with 85.5 to win Super Series 3, Round 1 and 86 to win Semifinal 2.

Zac Dallas – Dallas advanced fourth out of Super Series 1 and third out of Semifinal 2. He has three rides of 83 or better so far.

Chase Brooks – Brooks has totaled just $3,000 by advancing fourth in both his Super Series and Semifinal.

Breakaway Roping 

Beau Peterson – Peterson’s last two runs have been her two best, a 3.7 for second in Super Series 1, Round 3 and a 3.9 for fourth in Semifinal 2.

Kendal Pierson – Pierson enters the Championship Round fresh off making the fastest run of the rodeo with a 2.5 to win Wild Card 2.

Shelby Boisjoli-Meged – Boisjoli-Meged has won her last two Go-Rounds with a 2.8 in Super Series 5, Round 3 and a 3.1 in Semifinal 1.

Shayla Hall – Hall has won three Go-Rounds on five runs with times of 3.9, 3.6, and 2.9 seconds, the latter coming in Wild Card 1.

Joey Williams – Williams was 12.4 on her first run but has since made runs of 2.9, 3.6, and 3.0 seconds.

Cheyanne McCartney – McCartney’s last three runs have been 3.6, 3.4, and 3.7 seconds.

Taylor Munsell – Munsell has won a check on all four of her runs, the most recent being a 3.3 to tie for third in Semifinal 1.

Jackie Crawford – Crawford has already made $8,000 and all four of her runs have been between 3.0 and 3.8 seconds.

Rickie Fanning – Fanning didn’t win a check until Round 3 of her Super Series but has since made runs of 2.7 and 3.2 seconds.

Bradi Good – Good has made three runs in the 3s on four outs in Houston.

Tie-Down Roping 

Marty Yates – Yates is another cowboy who has been living on the edge as he finished fourth in Super Series 1 and Semifinal 1. His fastest run so far is a 9.7.

Blane Cox – Cox won Round 2 of Super Series 5 and then was 10.5 to get the fourth spot from Semifinal 2.

John Douch – Douch has won a check on all four of his runs, three of which have been 9.7 or faster.

Riley Webb – Webb won the last two Go-Rounds of his Super Series and shared the win in Semifinal 1. He has made three straight runs in the 8s and already banked $8,500 in Houston this season.

Tuf Cooper – Cooper won Super Series 5, Round 1 and Wild Card 1 with times of 8.5 and 8.4 seconds.

Shane Hanchey – Hanchey won Round 1 of his Super Series with an 8.4-second run and then finished second in Semifinal 2 with a 9.5-second run.

Cory Solomon – Solomon was the last one to lock up a Championship spot, bouncing back from an 18.8 in the Semifinals to make an 8.3-second run to win Wild Card 2.

Zack Jongbloed – Jongbloed made his fastest run of the rodeo by 1.4 seconds to tie for the Semifinal 1 win with Riley Webb.

Kincade Henry – Henry won the first two Go-Rounds of the entire rodeo and then took third in Semifinal 2. He has made $7,000 already.

Riley Pruitt – Pruitt finished fourth in his Super Series and then won Semifinal 2 with an 8.9-second run.

Barrel Racing 

Leslie Smalygo – No one has been more dominant in any event than the reigning barrel racing champion. She won $8,000 in her Super Series and then proceeded to make her fastest run yet, a 14.61, to win Semifinal 1.

Summer Kosel – Kosel won two rounds in her Super Series, one of which was with a 14.50-second run, and then took third in Semifinal 1.

Jordon Briggs – Briggs barely advanced after winning only $2,500 in her Super Series but made her fastest run of the rodeo with a 14.65 for second in Semifinal 1.

Kassie Mowry – Mowry has already totaled $8,000 after wining $5,000 in Super Series 3 and then winning Semifinal 2 with a 14.65-second run.

Jamie Olsen – Olsen finished third or better on all three runs in her Super Series and was fourth in Semifinal 1. All four of her times have been 14.77 or faster.

Brittany Pozzi Tonozzi – The 2023 World Champion has  won $8,250 so far by winning her Super Series and then taking second in Semifinal 2 with a 14.67-second run.

Acey Pinkston – Pinkston has placed in the Top 4 in the round on every run so far.

Emily Beisel – Beisel won her Super Series 3 and finished fourth in Semifinal 2. Her fastest run so far is a 14.58 in Super Series 3, Round 2.

Hailey Kinsel – Kinsel made a clutch 14.68-second run just to make it out of Super Series 5 and then with her back against the wall once again, she was 14.65 in Wild Card 1.

Michelle Alley – While Kinsel won Wild Card 1, Alley won Wild Card 2 with a 14.43-second run.

Bull Riding 

Jackson Ward – After winning $2,000 for an 82-point ride in Super Series 2, Round 2, Ward was the lone bull rider to make the whistle in Wild Card 1.

Jordan Spears – Spears started 0-for-2 but has covered his last two bulls to take second in Round 3 of Super Series 2 and fourth in Semifinal 1.

Hayes Weight – Weight rode his final bull in Super Series to make it out and then made an 87.5-point ride on Pete Carr’s Whiskey River to win Wild Card 2.

Mason Moody – Moody is 3-for-4 and all three of his rides have been between 80 and 81.5 points.

Tristen Hutchings – Hutchings has ridden three in a row, the last two being worth 88 and 86.5 points and resulting in Go-Round wins.

Luke Mast – Mast was 81 points for fourth in Semifinal 1 but before that, he made the highest marked bull ride of the rodeo with 89 points in Super Series 4, Round 3.

Wacey Schalla – Schalla has won $8,000 so far thanks to a 2-for-3 performance in his Super Series and a Semifinal 1 with 85 points on Cervi Championship’s Milkshake.

Stetson Wright – Wright and Schalla are in a close battle for No. 1 in the PRCA World Standings and Stetson has been marked 85.5 and 84 on his two qualified rides in Houston.

Lane Vaughan – Vaughan was 80 points on his lone qualified rides in his Super Series but improved mightily with 86 for second in Semifinal 2.

TJ Gray – Gray, just like Wright, was 85.5 on his first qualified ride to win a round in Super Series 1 and then 84 in the Semifinals.
