The American wasn’t the only big rodeo over the weekend, heck, it wasn’t even the only big one in Texas.

We’re focusing on PRCA rodeos only each week in the Monday Notebook, and fear not, we had another weekend in San Angelo as well as a Playoff Rodeo in Nevada that paid over $300,000 over five nights of action.

Six bull riders were 88.5 or better and all 10 who got paid were 85.5 or better at the Clark County Fair and Rodeo. In of the best bull ridings we have seen all season, a 90-point ride won it and an 85.5-point ride only won $370. Ky Hamilton was the champion, Stetson Wright was second, and Roscoe Jarboe, Clayton Sellars, TJ Gray, and Hayes Weight were among the others that got paid. It is the second straight year it took at least 90 to win this rodeo and 85.5 points to get paid.

Sage Allen, Logan Hay, and Kassie Mowry are new leaders at the San Angelo Stock Show and Rodeo. Allen rode Penthouse Pro Rodeo’s Cosmic Stardust for 89 to take the Round 1 lead in the bareback riding while Hay did the same on New Star Pro Rodeo’s True Grit in the bronc riding. Meanwhile, Mowry’s 14.01 in Round 2 is now the fastest barrel racing time of the rodeo.

Shea Fournier made the highest marked saddle bronc ride at a Playoff Series Rodeo this season with 92 points on The Black Tie. This Sankey Pro Rodeo and Phenom Genetics bucker has proven to be the pick of the pen when there’s big money on the line. Since the beginning of 2024, they have registered seven 90+ Point Rides on her in 15 regular season outs. That includes wins at the Utah Days of ’47, Sheridan Wyo Rodeo, Cheyenne Frontier Days, and Pendleton Roundup. Oh, and when they bucked her at the NFR both Brody Wells and Lefty Holman rode for 89.5 points and won the round. As for Shea Fournier, the win in Clark County was the highest marked tie of his career.

Mason Moody moved to No. 4 in the PRCA Bull Riding World Standings after winning the San Angelo Xtreme Bulls. The 22-year-old South Dakotan has ridden three of his first four bulls to start April and was just 90.5 points Sunday on Pete Carr’s Richard Slam for his highest marked ride of the season. That bull has been ridden just one other time in PRCA competition, when Wacey Schalla did so for 89.5 points at the Lea County Xtreme Bulls last August. For Moody, it was his first career 90+ Point Ride in the PRCA.

Steer wrestler Stetson Jorgensen moves to No. 3 in World Standings after Clark County victory. Jorgensen won thanks to runs of 3.8 and 4.5 seconds to win about $8,000 to piggyback off of fourth place finish in the Average in Austin and runs of 4.0 and 4.1 seconds in San Angelo.

Ky Hamilton jumped another eight spots to No. 7 in the PRCA Bull Riding World Standings. Hamilton went from outside the Top 20 to No. 15 just one week and jumped again over the weekend with a $10,000+ weekend thanks to a win at the Clark County Fair and Rodeo and a fourth place finish at the San Angelo Xtreme Bulls. With 11 qualified rides and $49,573 earned on the year, he is averaging nearly $5,000 per bull ride.

Stetson Wright made his 300th career qualified ride over the weekend. According to the PRCA’s official stats, Wright’s 89.5-pointer for second in Clark County got him to the milestone. For his career, he is 300-of-520 in ProRodeo for riding percentage of 57.7. It is the best riding percentage of any active bull rider in the PRCA, the next closest being Ky Hamilton at 45.3 percent.

Daxtyn Feild, the 18-year-old nephew of Kaycee, tied with Garrett Shadbolt and Dean Thompson at the Cinch World’s Toughest in Nevada.

When your mentor is a six-time World Champion, it’s expected to compete with the best in the World and for the first time in his career, Daxtyn did that over the weekend. He has won eight checks in his pro career already, but none were as hard-earned as the one in Laughlin, Nevada. He was matched up with an NFR bucking horse in Sippin Firewater and rode for the same score as a pair of 2024 NFR qualifiers, one of them being the reigning World Champion.
