At this point in the rodeo season every year, something becomes obvious: It is not about the athletes in the PRCA who can pop for a week or a month at a time. It is about the ones who do it week in and week out, the ones who quietly stack checks even when they aren’t winning rodeos or competing at the biggest ones.

Some rodeo fans may see rodeos like Lea County, Cache County and Sikeston and think they matter less. They don’t. They are Playoff Rodeos at a crucial time of the year, a stretch of the season where winning $4,000 at a pair of these rodeos doesn’t just represent $8,000 in the World Standings. It represents something much bigger.

It represents an athlete who has the consistency, steadiness and fortitude to keep adding to their season total at this point in the season, when the summer feels a little hotter and the days start to feel a little longer after two months on the road.

The end is closer than we think, though.

There are just seven weeks left in the regular season.

I know. I can’t believe it either.

Stetson Wright returns with an 84-point ride in Cache County. Wright kept it light in his return after a month off due to injury. He bucked off his lone bull and took fifth in the bronc riding in Logan, Utah. In his month away, he slipped to No. 2 in the bronc riding and No. 6 in the bull riding.

Bull rider Qynn Andersen placed Top 3 at all three rodeos he competed in. The Aussie went to all three Playoff Rodeos over the weekend and took third in Lea County and second in both Sikeston and Cache County. All three of his rides were 87 points or better and he was paid at least $4,000 for each ride. In total, he banked $16,631.

Kaleb Driggers/Junior Nogueira have closed the gap to $15,000 on Korbin Rice/Cooper Freeman. After their win in Calgary, Rice/Cooper’s lead swelled to over $65,000 in the World Standings. The two-time World Champion pair chasing them has shrunk that mightily. Over the weekend, Driggers/Nogueira won rounds in both Sikeston and Lea County and also added a third place finish in the Average in Sikeston and a fourth place finish at the XIT Rodeo in Dalhart, Texas. Since July 30, they have won $27,044 and nine checks worth over $2,000.

Nine bull riders were marked at least 88 points across four days of competition at the Lea County PRCA Rodeo. It didn’t quite reach the level of Cheyenne, but they sure packed the big rides into a short period of time in New Mexico. It was thrilling down to the very end, with Jace Trosclair making a walk-off 91-point ride on Pete Carr’s Payday to best World No. 1 Noah Lee by half of a point. It was tough to be Josh Frost, Cooper James, and Marshall Tsosie, who all took home $1,199 for an 88-point ride. The winning score in 2025 was 87.5.

Steer wrestler Cash Robb made three runs of 3.8 seconds or faster over the weekend. The No. 3 man in the World didn’t have much success at the Playoff Rodeos but more than made up for it by winning two one-headers and taking third at another. His winning times were both 3.5 seconds and he now has 15 times of 4.0 or faster, which ranks second in the PRCA.

Shane Hanchey was the weekend’s winningest tie-down roper with strong showings in Sikeston and Lea County. Hanchey made nearly $16,000 between those two rodeos after taking second in the Average in Lea County and third in Sikeston, three of his four were 8.6 seconds or faster. He has been one of the most prolific ropers all summer, the No. 5 man in the World also won over $70,000 in July.

Jayco Roper cracked the Top 15 in the bareback riding with a pair of runner-up finishes in Sikeston and Lawton. Roper has kept it rolling since winning Cheyenne and is on the right side of the bubble for the first time this summer. His rides of 85.5 and 86.5 points combined to pay him $9,300 and he is now No. 14 in the World. Roper has made 10 straight rides of 83.5 points or better.

Josh Frost has covered six in a row and now sits No. 21 in the World. After getting a late start to the season, the 2024 World Champion officially has another National Finals in his sights. He has climbed 16 spots since the beginning of the Summer Run and is now only $12,000 out of the 15th spot.
