The PBR is bringing its ride-to-advance format to Dickies Arena on Tuesday night and Wednesday night at the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo for the Last Cowboy Standing. It is the first year these events have been a part of the iconic FWSSR.

“PBR is thrilled to forge this partnership bringing exciting new events to the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo, one of the most iconic and respected events in Western sports,” said Sean Gleason, PBR CEO and Commissioner, in a November press release. “We’re excited to debut at FWSSR in the city of our organization’s new headquarters our high-stakes Last Cowboy Standing.”

On Jan. 21, all 40 of the event’s competitors take on one bull. The Top 25 move to Round 2 on Jan. 22. From there, the Top 8 advance to Round 3, and the Top 4 move to Round 4.

In the Final Round, the slate is wiped clean, and at least two riders compete for the title of Last Cowboy Standing. The winner will be the rider with the highest score.

The winner takes home $50,000 of the $10,000 total purse.

Also as part of the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo this year, the PBR will hold qualifier for Kid Rock’s Rock N Rodeo on Jan. 23.

STORYLINE TO WATCH: The Top 2 Cowboy in the World Standings have had Last Cowboy Standing Success Before

The World No. 1 John Crimber seemingly had success wherever he rode in his sensational rookie season, and the Challenger Series Last Cowboy Standing in Cheyenne was no exception.

Crimber took third in the event, but actually had the highest aggregate score and riding percentage. He covered his first three bulls and was scored at least 86.5 points on all of them, however, he bucked off at 5.69 seconds in Round 4 while Ezekiel Mitchell and Cassio Dias both covered their bulls.

The No. 2 man in the PBR World Standings is Lucas Divino and he already has two UTB victories this month after a 3-for-3 performance in Houston over the weekend.

The last time we saw Divino at a Last Cowboy Standing event was April of 2022 when he took second in Sioux Falls, going a perfect 3-for-3. He also took second at the 2019 Last Cowboy Standing in Cheyenne.

STAT TO KNOW: Ezekiel Mitchell won the most recent Last Cowboy Standing event by going 3-of-5

Getting on a minimum of five bulls over two days to win this event is grueling, which means it is rare to see even the event champion cover every bull.

In Cheyenne in 2024, Mitchell’s winning performance was extra grueling because he had to get on eight total bulls because of re-rides. Overall, only three of the 13 cowboys who competed rode multiple bulls.

In 2019, Chase Outlaw won the Last Cowboy Standing with only two qualified rides. Both rides, however, were better than 90 points.

BOLD PREDICTION: The event winner goes a perfect 5-for-5

I believe someone will go a perfect 5-for-5 this year in Fort Worth. Maybe it’s the energy in the air as PBR settles into its new headquarters during the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo. Maybe it’s because five riders are currently covering over 60 percent of their bulls. Or maybe it’s just the odds—40 competitors are bound to produce one hot streak.

Either way, winning the $50,000 will take a flawless 5-for-5 effort, in my opinion.

It’s never been done before, though Kaique Pacheco came close with a 4-for-4 performance in 2018.
