McCoy Rodeo/Spencer Neil announced on Sunday that the No. 2 bull in 2026 PBR competition, 247 Pegasus, has passed away after an extensive medical battle with an infection.
Pegasus had been battling the infection for more than a year and had been receiving around-the-clock care. What started as a horn infection compounded into a sinus infection, and the bones in his skull began deteriorating.
The bovine’s condition rapidly declined following the 2026 PBR World Finals.
After the infection neared Pegasus’ brain, the bull underwent emergency surgery at Texas A&M on June 3. Thirty people and three surgeons worked tirelessly to save the bull, making multiple bone flaps in his skull and removing most of the infection, but taking an eye in the process.
Pegasus’ condition improved for a moment. On June 6, Pegasus was up eating, drinking and taking small steps. However, the damage was extensive, and his health rapidly declined before he passed away on June 7. Pegasus was 8-years-old.
Pegasus leaves behind a legacy as one of the rankest bulls in PBR history. He allowed just eight rides in 25 outs, averaging a 44.8 career Bull Score. In the 2026 season, Pegasus averaged a 45.39 BullScore in 17 outs, boasting a 76.47% buckoff percentage.
Pegasus saved his best outs for last, providing three consecutive 46+ point performances at the 2026 PBR World Finals, including a career-high 46.8 points when it bucked off Daylon Swearingen in the Second Round. In the Fifth Round, Alex Cerqueira was 94.35 points on Pegasus, while the bull scored 46.3 points. Pegasus’ final out came in the Championship Round, where it bucked off Callum Miller for 46.1 points.
Unfortunately, Pegasus didn’t end the season on top, as he finished second in the PBR World Champion Bucking Bull race, averaging 45.95 points to Ransom’s 45.96 and losing by just 0.01 points.
Pegasus becomes the second elite rank bull to pass away in the last three months, joining the two-time PBR World Champion Bucking Bull Man Hater, who passed away in March.
The one-horned bull left a lasting impact on PBR fans and riders alike as one of the most beloved and rankest bulls of its time. Pegasus finally gets to spread his wings as he soars into the afterlife.
