Rookie bareback rider Sage Allen made a statement at the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo, delivering three rides of 85 points or better to top a tough bracket that included Leighton Berry and Cole Reiner, both of whom also advanced.

Reigning world champion JD Struxness showcased his dominance in steer wrestling, winning Round 1 and posting a 4.2-second run in Round 3 to finish second behind Brandon Harrison, whose 3.4-second run was the fastest of the rodeo.

Saddle bronc rider Shorty Garrett claimed the top spot after placing in the Top 3 of all three rounds, earning more than $6,000, while Ocean Veilleux rebounded from a slow start in barrel racing to win the final two rounds.

Among the other notables cowboys moving on are Nick Guy in steer wrestling, Kaleb Driggers/Junior Noguiera and Brenten Hall/Kaden Profili in team roping, Stetson Wright in saddle bronc riding and Marty Yates in tie-down roping.

QUICK DRAW

Stetson Wright finished second in the saddle bronc riding in Bracket 2, meaning he has advanced in both of his events.

All three of Jake Smith/Douglas Rich’s times were 4.7 or faster.

Three barrel racers finished with more than $4,700 in Bracket 2, Abby Phillips, Oceane Veilleux, and Lindsey McCuiston.

Scott Wells went 2-for-3 and was the only bull rider with multiple qualified rides in the Bracket.
