Reno Rodeo Recap: Stetson Dominates, Kinsel Repeats, and World No. 1s Shine

The 2025 Reno Rodeo lived up to its reputation as one of the premier stops of the summer, showcasing a full slate of standout performances, tight finishes, and potentially season-defining wins.
From record-setting rides and runs to breakthrough moments and back-to-back victories, the weeklong rodeo had no shortage of drama or excitement.
With big money on the line and momentum heading into Cowboy Christmas, Reno once again proved why it’s one of the most important, and unpredictable, stops on the ProRodeo schedule.
Jess Pope stayed steady to win the bareback riding with all three rides being marked either 84.5 or 86.5 points. He was the champion with 255.5 points on three. Tanner Aus, Kade Sonnier, Garrett Shadbolt and Jacek Frost all finished within two points of him.
In steer wrestling, Will Lummus turned in three straight runs of 4.7 seconds or faster and needed every bit of all of them because he won the Average by one-tenth over Stetson Jorgensen. Lummus was 13.5 on three and thanks to splitting first place in Round 1, he won more than $17,000. Prior to this season, Lummus had just won just one check in Reno for his entire career.
“I’m blessed to be able to run a steer for that much money here and have some success,” he said.
Team roping produced the most unlikely champions of the rodeo, as every other event winner in Reno entering the Short Round was ranked inside the Top 15. Aaron Tsinigine and Jeremy Buhler, however, were both outside the Top 20. All they needed in the Finals was a businessman run, and they delivered with a 6.7 to win the Average by more than a full second.
Damian Brennan led the Reno Rodeo the entire way in the saddle bronc riding and has now moved up five spots in the World Standings over the last two weekends to No. 10 with his victory.
The Aussie was 87.5 in each of the first two performances and his 175 points on two held up through the entire week and he entered the Finals as the man to beat.
Brennan’s 88.5 in the Short Round was second by a half-point, but more than enough to get him the victory as he finished with 263.5 points on three, three points clear of second-place Ben Andersen. By placing in third or better in all three rounds, Brennan brought in a total of $17,878.
World No. 1 Riley Webb made a Summer Run statement in the tie-down roping with a win in Reno after entering the Short Round tied for third with World No. 2 Shad Mayfield.
Webb got better on each run, turning in a 9.2, 9.0 and 8.3, and finishing two-tenths better than the runner-up at the 2025 College Finals Brey Yore.
Taylor Munsell was a fellow World No. 1 who got the win in Reno as she made three straight runs of 3 seconds flat or faster to claim the title. For the second straight year, Munsell won Reno with an aggregate time of 8 seconds flat on three. She now leads the WPRA Breakaway World Standings by more than $50,000.
“This is such an awesome rodeo and I must say, this is probably my favorite one,” Munsell said. “I’ve rode three different horses here and I’ve made the Short Round five times.”
There was another repeat winner in the other ladies’ event, and Hailey Kinsel was much faster than she was a year ago.
In 2025, she finished with a three-head time of 50.97 seconds, well ahead of the 51.54 she won with in 2024. In fact, her 2024 time would have been eighth this year.
For the second year in a row, Kinsel’s good friend Emily Beisel finished second to her.
“I have so much respect for all the women out here,” Kinsel said. “These gals are horsemen, they’re farriers, they’re truck drivers, they do it all.”
Kinsel has ridden Sister in Reno five times and finished first twice and second twice.
The final winner was perhaps the most dominant of the bunch. Stetson Wright was one of two bull riders to cover a pair and he was 92.5 and 89.5 on them as part of a weekend where he won three rodeos.
The highest paying among them, though, was Reno, as Wright banked over $21,000 for his sweep.
“These last few days it felt like I was either back to my old self or even better,” he told ProRodeo.com. “And I’d like to think better because that’s what you’re supposed to do every year is get better and not stay in the same place.”
QUICK DRAW
Stetson Wright’s 182 points on two is the best aggregate score in more than 10 years in Reno, besting Tristen Hutchings’ 181 points from a year ago. There was only one sub-17 second run in the barrel racing in 2024 compared to seven in 2025. That is more than the previous three years combined. Heeler Jeremy Buhler was ranked outside the Top 50 entering Reno while no other winner was outside the Top 25. It is the second straight year that the tie-down roping was won by the No. 1 man in the PRCA World Standings.RESULTS
