RodeoHouston Super Series 2 Recap and Results

The second Super Series in Houston took center stage in the rodeo world over the weekend, with performances on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday inside NRG Stadium. Four more tickets in each event were punched to the Semifinals.

The bareback riding in Super Series 2 was dominated by two 2024 NFR cowboys—Cole Franks and Leighton Berry. Franks, who has finished in the Top 4 at both previous Texas Swing stops, advanced with three consecutive second-place finishes. Berry, who is aiming for his third straight RodeoHouston title, won Round 1 and placed second in Round 2. Both finished with $5,000.

In steer wrestling, Eli Lord got faster with each run to win the Super Series with $5,000 of his own. He was 8.4 in Round 1, 5.7 in Round 2, and 5.0 in Round 3, with the latter two runs earning him a pair of $2,000 second-place checks.

In team roping, Coy Brittain and Colton Brittain won Round 3 to secure the top spot with $5,500. They also finished second in Round 2. Meanwhile, in tie-down roping, Bo Pickett’s $4,750 was enough for first place, with about two-thirds of that total coming from his Round 1 win.

In saddle bronc riding, Zeke Thurston dominated the Super Series with two round wins as he looks to claim this rodeo title for the first time since he was a 21-year-old on his way to his first NFR. Someone even younger could win the bull riding, however. Nineteen-year-old Wacey Schalla won Super Series 2 as the only rider to cover multiple bulls.

In the two women’s events, Brittany Pozzi Tonozzi won two rounds to bank $6,250 in barrel racing. In breakaway roping, all four advancing cowgirls earned either $3,250 or $3,000, with Sawyer Gilbert finishing first among them.

QUICK DRAW

Zeke Thurston is No. 12 in the PRCA World Standings having only competed at the three Texas Swing Rodeos so far.

The highest marked ride in every roughstock event in Super Series 2 is now the highest marked ride of the rodeo. Lane McGehee was 88 in bareback riding, Zeke Thurston was 88.5 in saddle bronc riding, and Scottie Knapp was 88 in bull riding.

On the timed event end, Joel Harris now has the fastest tie-down roping run with a 7.8 in Round 3. The previous fastest was 8.7 from Cash Hooper.

The two barrel racing Super Series winners – Brittany Pozzi Tonozzi and Lisa Lockhart – have combined for 35 NFR appearances.
