San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo Bracket 2 Recap: Will Lummus, Riley Westhaver, Zeke Thurston and LaTricia Duke All Pull in Over $6,000

Zeke Thurston continued what has been a half-decade of impressive performances in San Antonio, Will Lummus and Riley Westhaver got a big jump on the compeition in the bulldogging, and Josie Conner put herself in prime position in the breakaway roping.

Bareback Riding: Mason Stuller championed the Second Bracket with $4,954 earned over the three rounds. He went 85, 85, and 86, good for third, fourth, and second place in each round. Stuller will attempt to secure his first San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo Short Round bid. Wacey Schalla finished second in the bracket and was 85.5 points on Double J Rodeo Company’s Cafe Risque to win the First Round. It’s his seventh round win of 2026 already.
Steer Wrestling: Will Lummus and Riley Westhaver each earned a bracket-high $6,881. They both won a round and placed second in the other two. Lummus was 5.2 seconds to win Round 1, while Westhaver was 4.7 seconds to win the Third Round. Neither of them had the fastest run of the bracket, though, as Dalton Massey was 4.5 seconds to win Round 2. Lummus and Westhaver were each 4.7 seconds and tied for second in Round 2. Massey qualified third overall with $3,853.
Team Roping: James Arviso and partner Rance Doyal led the Second Bracket with $5,504 each behind two round wins. Arviso and Doyal were 3.8 seconds to win Round 1, the fastest time recorded so far in San Antonio. They followed it up with a 3.7-second run to win Round 3. Garret Tonozzi and Dustin Davis won the Second Round with a 4.6, but they failed to qualify for the Semifinals. Instead, the pairings of Begay/Todd, Hill/James, and Carter/Woodfin found the consistency needed to advance.
Saddle Bronc Riding: Zeke Thurston qualified atop the Second Bracket with $6,330 earned. He won Round 3 with an 87.5-point ride on Calgary Stampede’s Get Across Nelly. Thurston missed the Short Round in San Antonio last year but qualified in three straight years from 2022 to 2024. Stetson Wright finished second in the bracket with $5,504. Wright was 86.5 points on Calgary Stampede’s Borderline Untimely to win Round 2. Cash Wilson and Riggin Smith also advanced with $3,303 and $2,752 respectively. Smith won Round 1 of the bracket.
Tie-Down Roping: Despite not winning a round, Haven Meged finished as the top qualifier with $4,404. Meged placed second in the first two rounds, which was enough to edge out round winners like Cole Clemons ($3,853) and Bryce Derrer ($2,752), who qualified behind him. Derrer was 7.8 seconds to win Round 2, the fastest time so far in San Antonio. From 2021 to 2023, Meged made the Short Round in San Antonio. He has missed it the past two years. With $3,302, Bo Pickett also qualified from Bracket 2.
Barrel Racing: LaTricia Duke earned $7,156 as the top qualifier in her bracket. She was 14.38 seconds to win Round 1 and placed second in the next two rounds. Brittany Pozzi Tonozzi was 14.29 seconds to win Round 2, the fastest time in her bracket. She qualified second behind Duke with $6,054. In third and fourth were Paige Jones and McKenna Coronado with $3,303 and $2,752 respectively.
Bull Riding: Trey Benton exploded for an event-high 90 points on Stockyards ProRodeo’s Insurrection, winning Round 3. Benton was also 82 points for third place in Round 1. He earned $4,770 and the top qualifying spot in the bracket. Clayton Sellers won Round 2 with 86.5 points on Stockyards ProRodeo’s Party In The USA. The ride earned Sellers $4,128 and the second qualifying spot.
Breakaway Roping: Josie Conner was terrific in Bracket 2, winning Round 1 outright with a 2.6-second run and tying with Jessi Everett for first in Round 3 with a 1.9-second run. She made more $6,697 and will be joined in the Semifinals by Fort Worth champion Jill Tanner as well as Joey Williams and Everett.
