The final weekend of San Angelo is upon us with the action resuming tonight at the San Angelo Coliseum.

Here is a primer to get you ready for what’s to come…

Leighton Berry has an opportunity to move back into the upper echelon of bareback riders. The four-time NFR qualifier missed out last year due to injury, but has been riding really well since getting his feet back under him. He was a season-high 92 points in Round 1 of San Angelo, which not only puts him in position to win Round 1, but also a good chance to win the rodeo. He leads second-place Cole Reiner by 3.5 points and third-place Wacey Schalla by 4.5 points. If Berry rides for 88 or more points in the Short Round, there is a very good chance he adds $14,000 to his season earnings. He is currently No. 10 in the World.

This could be John Crimber’s first Texas Swing win. The PRCA rookie and PBR standout has ridden more than 80 percent of his bulls in ProRodeo, but is yet to get a signature win. Like Berry, he is very much in the driver’s seat after a 90-point ride on New West’s Payday gave him the Round 1 lead by 1.5 points over fellow rookie Noah Lee. Crimber will have to get through a loaded field as Wacey Schalla and Tristen Hutchings are also among the leaders. There are still two more Long Gos in the roughstock events.

Steer wrestler Chase Crane could officially put himself on the ProRodeo radar. The 36-year-old who had never finished inside the Top 50 in his career suddenly ranked No. 27 in the World after making it to Championship Sunday. He followed that up by bringing his flair to San Angelo and making a 3.6-second run to win Round 1 and its $4,800 payday. Crane is essentially a lock for the Finals as he sits tied with Cimarron Thompson for the three-head lead at 15.3 seconds. It is the first year San Angelo has gone to four rounds in the timed events.

The winning Semifinal tie-down roping time is very gettable. One of the fan favorite events in San Angelo is ripe for a shake-up. Cory Solomon leads with an 8.5, but we have already seen 17 times faster than that throughout the rodeo.

Team roping will see some fast Semifinal times. The winning Semifinal time is currently 3.5 seconds from reigning World Champions Andrew Ward/Jake Long and there have already been six runs of 4.2 seconds or faster in the Semis, and there are plenty of speedy pairs left to go. Among them are Dustin Egusquiza/JC Flake, Kaleb Driggers/Junior Nogueira, Lightning Aguilera/Jonathan Torres, and Jade Corkill/Clint Summers.
